"Don't go there, go Dell."

Seriously, I would go with Dell for a lap top.

And 1,100 pounds is about 2000 USD. ;)

I agree, you really can't go wrong with a Dell laptop, especially the Inspiron 8600, as it comes with the ATi Mobility 9600 Pro Turbo card, and is based on the Centrino platform.

Look here (http://commerce.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config/frameset.asp?c=645&n=4818&b=46625&m=gbp&cu=uktra&l=en&s=uktra&store=uktra&sbc=ukdhsinspn&v=d)

Edit: you really need a good warrany for any laptop purchase that you make, as the components are quite delicate and most likely will need a repair or two a year, depending on your mileage.

Get a garantue -if posssible 3 yrs
dvd burner
good scrn resolution
and check that the fan does not sound like a vacuum cleaner (test by pushing the cpu)(in a quiet place)
check magazines for reviews
dont bother going for the best of the newest cause it will only cost more and be outdated in a month-so get xtra ram 500 or more

for that price you could get something veryverynaice
