Look for activation cracks. You do need it as after 30 days the software stops working.

Rubbish. You only need to activate XP if you want to download the updates/service packs. You do not have to activate xp.

Depends whether he means register or activate, as in using an XP key. If you download a copy of XP from Kazaa you will need a serial number (key) to even install it, so make sure you have one before you format if you're doing a clean install.

If you are installing XP Pro, find XP-Pro-Corporate Key numbers. There is also a corporate key generator out there but it can take a little while to get a working number. With a corporate key, you do not have to activate it at any point (even afterward if you changed some of your hardware). I have a licensed copy of XP Pro but I am still using a corporate number because I do change things on my computer and their whole "activation" thing just pisses me off.

I do mean 'product activation' not just a cd-key. So ill use a coporate key and I dont need to activate. Thanks.

You will not have to activate it. The original product will work for a limited period and then insist that it is "activated" by M$. If this is not done it will stop working.

The one you download will never do this and will work without activation.

However, M$ are aware of the versions which do this and the SP will not install on them. So if you want to update then it won't work.

So if you want to just use the product as released then simply download and install. If you want to use the SP then you have to change the key. This is simply done using a freely available prog. It's no big problem either way.

With the new key generators and new sets of numbers, you wont have this problem. I was using one of the old numbers and when I went to install SP1 I couldnt. I found a utility to change my key and found a new list of numbers and SP1 installed like a charm. No problems with Windows Update either.

OK, now I am confused. I installed the 6 in 1 xp pack that DarthShusi posted.

I put it on my second drive just in case there were any problems. The program has told me I had 30 days to activate it. Yesterday the 30 days ran out and now today it wants me to activate it.

Won't let me do anything unless I do. When I tell it no it just logs me out and stays at the login screen.

So, am I supposed to let it activate online and not worry about it cause I am not registering it?

When I installed it, I also used I belive xpantispy to prevent it from calling home and all that. Doesn't seemed to have helped much in this case.

Anyway, until this is worked out, I wouldn't suggest installing something that says to activate it until you know for sure if my problem is solved. Cause now I can't accsess anything other than through my main drive.

Thanks for any advice, I was looking forward to finally installing this on my main drive so I could get rid of ME. Glad I waited.

So as not to confuse. My posts relate to the standalone XP Pro version (the FCK one). Which at no time asks to be activated. It simply installs and works from there. It is as if activation does not exist (which is exactly the case) I have no knowledge of the multi-pack versions.

The one I use needs the key code changed before SP1 will install. This is an entirely seperate thing from activation.

Sorry for any confusion. It does however demonstrate that we should be as accurate as possible when posting.

u need to install in safe mode....just read the nfos

OK, so I installed the crack in safe mode like the nfo said, then restarted my comp. like it said.

Now all it does is go through an endless loop of beginning to load xp and then shutting down and restarting. It comes to the screen with the xp logo and the little moving squares at the bottom of the screen that are supposed to show it is loading. Then flashes to what looks like the next step and shuts down only to keep repeating that process.

So I tried to restart in safe mode again and the same thing happens, only in the safe mode format.

Any ideas?

And if this all fails, is there anyway to get this install of XP off the drive and start again?

u have no choice now...u waited too long before applying the crack...u will need to format the hard drive in order to get rid of xp...u can do this through the cd or get the boot disk generator for home/pro on m$ website...if u still wanna use xp, get the corporate version from kazaa...it needs no activation...if not.. u need to install the crack on your first loading of windows..that is.. straight away after installation, when the system reboots press F8 to get into safe mode and apply the crack

good luck

Sorry if I'm repeating what others have said but I would install the "Corporate Edition" of WinXP which does not require activation. Before you do, though, use the Key Gen to make a product key (select Windows XP Corp from the list) and then you'll have no trouble at all. You can even use WindowsUpdate and upgrade to Service Pack 1 with no hassles.

Basically, the original Corporate key (FCK....) has been blocked by M$, so as long as you don't use that one you're sorted ;)
