Isnt there a program that lets you lock a selected folder with a password?

If there is such a program, please, could you post the hash for it?

The only way I know of to lock a folder(with a password) is to put it in a zip file.
There are some folders on my computer that I'ld like to see locked with a password without compressing it but I don't know of any way to do so.

But if all this is sufficient enough to protect it against hackers...it all depends on their skills I guess. But a decent firewall would be a good deffence.

not sure about winzip, but winrar has a "storage" compression setting
basically all it does is archive w/o compressing, and you can apply a p/w to it

just right ckick the folder, select "add to archive..."
it'll give ya the option there

B)

-edit- yep, you can do it in winzip too, just select "none" for compression

the problem with these methods are that you need to make ANOTHER copy to the file... anyway, look on k-lite for a programme called FoldeGuard (make sure it has a crack or a serial), and it works great (lol, you can even lock up your whole hard drive if i remember!!! :) )

why lock it? if a hacker really wanted ur folder it's still a futile attempt

best way i know is to hide it with partitionmagic

hides a whole partition.

just create a new partition and put all ur porn there, then hide it, it's gone

Why bother doing that when you can download Magic Folders (http://www.magicfolders.com/) which effectively hides your folders for you?

Here's an extract from their website...

Your invisible folders and files can't be deleted, viewed, modified, or run. For all practical purposes they don't exist. Use Magic Folders to protect your finances, taxes, business and personal documents. Others won't know these files exist and they won't be able to accidentally delete or modify them either. With Magic Folders you can turn your computer over to your children or co-workers without worrying if they'll delete, modify or view important files.

Yet, just enter your password and you'll instantly have complete and normal access to all your folders and the files within. There's no need to un-hide each file or folder individually. And Magic Folders is totally transparent. No one need know your invisible folders/files even exist.

If you wish, you can establish five different accounts so everyone using your computer can create their own invisible folders that only they have access to.

If you share your computer you need Magic Folders. Use it to protect files you don't want others to delete, modify, view, or use. Keep your important files safe. Protect them with Magic Folders!

if you are using win 2000 or xp with NTFS you can set permission on the forder it self + encrypt. this is much better than using any other program

This only works with folders under My Documents. Folder Guard can lock and/or hide any folder. This is the hash I used to get it, but that was so long ago I'm not sure if anyone is still sharing it...

As mentioned previously, Magic Folders (http://www.magicfolders.com/) is probably the best 'Folder Lock' program I have used.

Hiding a Partition with Partition magic does nothing. Data is still accessible and it will work with any forder on in the computer

Hmmm.....try the Steganos Safe. It creates up to 4 hidden hard drives up to 4Gigs in size. They are hidden until activated. When you open the safe, you can drag-n-drop like a second hd. All files put in the safe are encrypted. You can veiw, edit, copy and move files from within the safe. The advantage over Partition Magic is 3 fold. 1: It's easy to set up 2: The data is encypted-no one can open it with out the passkey. 3: You don't have to reboot to access the drive-just open it and close it when you're done.

Example: You have a file called Pron.avi on your 40Gig hd. Install the safe. It now shows itself as a 35Gig hd. Put Pron.avi in the safe and close it. Do a search for Pron.avi. No such file found (If you moved it and didn't copy it).

Better yet, move it with the Eraser. It has a right click extenson called "Secure move with Eraser" that'll shred the original as it's being moved. You can get the freeware Eraser here (http://www.heidi.ie/). You can check out the safe here (http://www.steganos.com/./en/safe/index.php4). You can get a cr@{ from astala-land.

Good luck :pimp:

I didn't know you were talking about Partition Magic. I thought you meant simply right-clicking a folder in NTFS and selecting 'Sharing and Security'. That can only be used to make a folder under My Documents private.
