I found out the other day that there is a hack for alcatel speed touch ADSL modems, It's a software hack that allows you to access pro features and get the BENEFITS from a pro installation..... you ALSO get true ADSL speed..

Have you ever noticed when you START to download something...or start downloading of a good source...the speed spikes and is really fast ...and then drops down to a stable speed, well this is because the caps in the adsl router dont kick in for like 2 seconds...Thats what the hack fixes, you get "true speed"...PRETTY cool....

The link is here ;

http://www.petri.co.il/upgrade_from_home_to_pro.htm

I was wondering if any one has tried it.....if you do decide to try it PLEASE tell us all what happened THANKS ALOT

By the way there are companies that fix alcatel modems cheaply...I'll post a link or tel. number later ... (like $30/£20)

Your download speed spikes because the file has already begun to download before it displays that it is.

That is all.

This is true for 56k but for adsl/cable the download does spike before it is capped. It is possible to make the connection connect then disconnect (repeatadly) to the download source to acheve very high download speeds.
I have seen this done and it works

Disclaimer & Warning
Messing with the software settings of your modem and/or messing with the registry or internal settings of your operating system can render your modem or operating system useless. Read the whole article and manual before you do any changes. Following these steps might work for you. It did for me and for many others, but that does not necessarily mean they will! I take no responsibility for anything bad that might happen to your OS or modem, and since you're on your own - Do not ask me for help! It's your modem!

Applying this hack will definitely VOID WARRANTY! If you are not experienced with tricks like these STOP NOW! Besides, some ISPs might stop supporting you if they find out that you messed up with your modem.

this sounds dodgy

The real question is "which is more valuable...an increase in bandwidth...or the warranty...."

I suggest you look at this hack, the same way an overclocker would look at overclocking (the warranty of the CPU against the increase in PC speed) <_<

Don't uncap your DSL. It's not fair to the people who pay more for their added speed. Your ISP will not like it one bit of they found out very well could terminate your account, then you will be stuch with 0Kpbs connection. LoL

well think?

ive 502kb ntl modem, to upgrade to 1mb = £10 month / 1 year = £120

if i uncap my modem and i get busted by ntl,

new phone line has to be installed in home cost = £180
for my new modem and broadbrand connection = £510
total cost = £690

the cost and worry to you for the uncap could be = £570

is it rally worth it ?

if you are with ntl or cable they may even discontinue your account or take it further.
some cable companies can be ruthless when it comes to people stealing their services.

so add the cost of satelight installation to the above bill.

If your connection seems far below its RATED speed, get TCP/IP Optimizer from www.speedguide.net
