Sorry, maxed out my connection first time I tried it and mine is not a connection easily maxed out.

However if you're behind a firewall or router you will need some additional settings. Look HERE (http://filesharingtalk.com/index.php?showforum=64) for some pointers.

I've gotten speeds up near 500KBs on my 10Mb connection at home, however my university makes my Bit Torrent go to 4KBs MAX. You also may have been connecting to the dial up users as opposed to the people who running on broadband. As we all know the upload from dial up isn;t quite as good as broadband . You can always try disconnecting and reconnecting to the tracker. However BT worked great for me at home without me doing anything but clicking the torrent and letting it go, but I was not behind any firewalls or things of the sort.

shite bic, that t1 is treating you pretty good, how much does that cost

oh and to the topic starter, referring to your topic title, i wouldnt want kazaa speeds on bt :D i get great speeds on bt, just depends on the seeds

cwctv
01-22-2004, 08:06 PM
depends on the seeds

Thats how I find it more of them the faster you go and it depends how much speed they have too so its all down to the file you want, at the moment I have 14 seeds and 13 peers with a speed of 92kB/s coming in.

Update down to 48 now. <_<

Update now go it The Core in 2 hrs 10 mins that wasn't bad best I have done so far.

and ppl limit their uplaod, they could have a 1mb ul but limit it to 15k

This is an unbelievable topic, 'cos normally i ask myself

"WHY can i not get BT speeds on KL?! WHY? GOD WHY?!..."

Try using shadow, or something shadow based, then limit upload to 50% -- 80% of your max. (less than 50% may bring better speeds, but think of the community as a whole, don't leech, share.)

Oh, and watch your firewall, try some different options, and disabling it to see whether that has any effect... (well, i'm sure you can figure the rest out for yourself).

A T-1's speed isn't anything great nowdays -- except it's good for uploads.
A standard T-1 line is 1.5 mbps down and up. That's about 160-180 KB/sec down and up.

He's getting over 10 TIMES faster than that!
I doubt it's a T-1 -- it's more like a fiber line or T-3/E-3 class equipment. Not uncommon for something of that caliber to run in the $1,000's per month.

Even T-1's here cost about $400/month. :(

Hi,

I sure in the hell dont want Kazaa speed on Bittorrent, I would get nothing, except a bunch of fake files, or messages saying "more sources needed"

I am a big fan of Bittorrent, the downloads speed depends on how many other people are getting the same file and how much they are uploading to you,

The max you can recieved on BT, is your connection speed, I am paying for a 3meg service, and the highest Ive gotten with BT, is 900kb/s.

Now uploading is a different story, I am paying for 256kb/s, however the max Ive reach is 35kb/s,

It just depends on who you are getting the file from,

well said :beerchug:!

so many ppl get a bad impression of bt the first time because they get crappy speeds. you just need to go on a forum-based site and just ask for reseeds, bt just depends on whos seeding

Your '3meg service' is occassionally giving you >7meg (900 KB/sec) download speeds occassionally!

On the other hand, do your kb/sec = kilobits/sec or KILOBYTES/sec?

3 MB/sec (3 MEGABYTES/sec) connections are virtually unheard of.

Whatever!

What we're trying to tell you is that you have some settings configured wrong.
Either you're behind a router and need to forward some ports or you need to open up those ports on your firewall.
And might I suggest this link (http://www.dictionary.com)?

@Switeck: I believe this has come up before (I've got a deja-vu anyway). I'm actually on a shared T3. Now because that it's shared I can't claim to have the full bandwidth, but sometimes I do :D

ok test2speed should be banned or something... hes not contributing anything to the forum.

But for those of you who have this problem.. THE ONLY THING YOU CAN DO IS OPEN THE PORTS YOUR BITTORENT CLIENT USES. There is no magical speedup tool. I had the same problem because I have a router, but when I forwarded the necessary ports, my coonection immediately maxed out. The highest I can get is 150KB/s but bittorrent is the only thing i can get those speeds on besides irc. But again, it all depends on the uploaders. Notorious was only connected to 3 ppl when he was downloading NFS. They must have had t3's as well for him to get those speeds.

bit torrent slow? That's funny. I always get files over a gig in a matter of hours. The speed just depends on a lot. Get off the original client if you're using that one.

All clients aren't really the same.

storm.com/]torrentstorm (http://www[please no torrent links) is good.Really nice feratures, but the current version makes a process for each download. Might as well just use the original client....

turbobt (http://www.turbobt.com/) can get some good speeds.

ABC (http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net/index.html) uses very little system resources, and supports some really good features.

azureus (http://azureus.sourceforge.net/) is the client I'm using at the moment. It definately has the most features, and so far it's given me the best speeds. You can choose to download from only one port for example. That seemed to make a difference... as well as many other factors.

A big factor, is how much is goin through your connection at one time. Having a lot of downloads, or sharing a connection with someone else is just the beggining....

I agree with BT being slow. I have managed to get close to my max speed but it was on one fairly small file. I find it hard to get most of the large files I'm after (the 7 gig ones) and find it easier and quicker to use emule. Some of it is to do with seeds but BT also seems to make a big fuss about my firewall (I have one but its always on yellow).

You could try Shareaza too see if that helps boost your speed (you can download Torrents in it).

If you have a misconfigured firewalled then it can even lock you out of the internet, yet you wouldn't call the internet 'slow' or 'doesn't work' if you did that because it is a problem on your end not the internet that is causing the slowness.

Allow BitTorrent (whatever program you use) full access through your firewall, port-forward your router if you have one, and then see how slow it is.

once i port forwarded the ports for ABC, 75%of the time my connection is maxed, and its never really under 50KB/s.

One thing I found helpful is to only download one file at a time. Since you have too upload for all the files you are downloading, if you only download one, atleast on ABC, you only have to upload @3BK/s. But if you have like 10 or even 3 torrents running at the same time, it can kill your connection and bring all your speeds down. I'm not promoting leeching, because once the download is done I always seed for atleast a couple of hours at my full upload speed unless i browsing the web.

I agree with that. I forwared my ports to the router and shot from 5KBps to 90+ KBps, in fact I got told off for taking more than my fair share of the bandwidth :lo
