All the paid version features is no copyright notice.

If you're paying for BBS software, I recommend vBulletin. 3.0.0 RC2 is out now, and it is great.

If you want it free, get vB still. :D

You see that link on the bottom of every page?

click on it to go to invisionboard.com

on the right click on download and pricing

then hit [ Request Free Trial Download ]

now click Download Invision Power Board 1.3 (Final)

and you end up here http://www.invisionboard.com/download/inde...ct=dl&s=1&id=11 (http://www.invisionboard.com/download/index.php?act=dl&s=1&id=11)

You only need to pay if you want to get rid of that line on the very bottom of this forum (Powered by Invision Power Board(U) v1.3 Final © 2003 IPS, Inc.) or if you want support, hosting, conversion from another forum and a few other things.

that file only comes with english. you need to import others if you need.

edit: try here for language packs http://mods.ibplanet.com/db/?act=mods&cat_id=6

IPB is free.

And about using vB, you are right and wrong. As of 3.0.0, which is not a final release, vB "calls home" to Jelsoft upon every admin login. Just about every single "cracked" version of vB will say that it is nullified (no customer number required) and spyfixed (no calling home).

like spyware?

No, every time the root administrator logs in, it sends your customer data to vBulletin.

If you are using a nullified version or an illegal number, vBulletin sues you.

Spyfixing removes this.

You can download a free version of invision from their main site (http://www.invisionboard.com/) (as is being used by this board). You can pay to remove things like copyright and to add functions like IP chat and other things. You can also pay for installation.

I don't believe they would go through that much trouble to get a board removed.

They will probally contact you with a nice little letter from their lawyers requesting that you take the board down.

True, true. They are, however very aggressive with non-branded licenses being illegally used - so much so that they admit finding non-branded boards and harassing them.
