how do i fdisk & format a hard disk under XPPro ?? (120GB)
it is installed as a secondary master
as i have a primary master & slave already

I have tried under Win98 using Fdisk
the disk is there but i can't use its capacity
can only make the 120GB hard disk 500MB !!??
i've tried using partion magic 8 under Win98 but the disk doesn't even show up ?

I fluked doing this under Win98 about 6 months ago on a different 120Gb harddisk but cannot figure it out this time

if there's no fdisk on XP how are you meant to do it?

You don't need to fdisk with XP. Just format it if it's going to be a storage drive or partition it from the logical disk manager in computer management.

If it's going to have XP installed on it and all one partition, XP will do it all. If you wanna partition it later, use Partition magic.

formatting it under XP
shows -
total size 503Mb
capacity 1.99Gb , it is a 120GB drive!!
& it will not let me format it as it says "a program is using it"
but i have closed all programs with access to it ??
the only way i can access it is by using fdisk on Win98
but it thinks it is a 503Mb hard disk !!??

i can format it now in Xp computer management

Which means that everyone else with a little talent will be able to access it too.

You really need all 120mb available to win98? I doubt it.

figured it out -
Xp computer management -
deleted partion
formatted it in NTFS
then partionmagic8 changed NTFS to Fat32
its all running now - thanks everyone

disc1 - 80Gb - Windows98 (5GB)(Fat32)
- WindowsXP (15GB)(NTFS)
- SystemXP (the rest GB)(NTFS) -xp applications

disc2 - 120Gb - Games (Fat32)

disc3 - 120Gb - Data (Fat32)
disc4 - 30Gb - Backup(NTFS) usually disconnected so nothing can get it

Win98 with alcohol120% for my 4 year old daughter
