The disk probably has some sort or protection on it. (SafeDisc v2, Macrovision, etc.) You can't just burn things that have protection with any cd copy program. There are intentional screw ups on the disc and the game checks for them to see if they're there. If they're not, the game will not work/won't install/will fuck up etc.

You'll need the original disks (bug your friend for them) and a program called ClonyXXL (look on Google or sumthin).
Now use ClonyXXL to scan the GTA:VC disks (original ones) for protection. If it hits you with "Safedisc v.2.5" or higher you're screwed. Very few burners can match this protection. Look at how many skulls or whatever it shows you. (You'll understand when you get the program). For any other protection a program called CloneCD should get the job done. Make sure your computer country is not set to the United States or Japan, because "Amplify Weak Sectors" will be disabled, and you need that. I know this is all confusing, but it will make sense when you do it.

If you're lucky and get "No protection," which I doubt, you can use the install disk that is your friend's and use the play disk you copied.

Look for guides on the 'net that go more in-depth than I've said here.
