some info:

It's taken 27 years but, on January 5th Jefferson Airplane's San Fran classic gets the rebirth it deserves as the Boogie Pimps massive take of Somebody To Love' is released by Data/ MOS.

...Rewind to 1976 and Grace Slick, Jefferson Airplane's lead singer, stands topless before thousands of acid rockers at an open air concert in America. As the rain beats down Grace opens her mouth and sings `Somebody To Love', Jefferson Airplane's million selling US number 2 smash.

... Now fast forward to Erfurt, Germany November 2003. Mark J Klak and Mirko Jacob from the Boogie Pimps are reminiscing about the track that, originally rejected by record labels throughout Germany went on to top the German DJ playlist, all the German dance charts and "...reverbed through every club speaker up and down the country", according to Mirko.

The video was conceived by hot production duo Cops and Robbers, whose previous credentials have included videos for Tim Deluxe and Busted. Featuring the talents of Page 3 girl Natasha who starred in the Benni Bennassi `Satisfaction' video (voted MTV's sexiest music video 2003), the Boogie Pimps vid has already caused a sensation being added to playlist on Kiss TV, The Box, slits and MTV Dance weeks upfront release.

Says Mark J Klak, aka Markus: "We were sat around at Mirko's one night, it was the winter of 2 n 1 and a c .yore watching Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas with a few beers and some splits. Ahrko kept going on about loved the Jefferson record from the soundtrack. I wasn't sure but Mirko liked it so much, we eventually'.- decided have a mess around with it. We spent about 3 or 4 months producing and recording it until one day we played the keys of the hook on the keyboard and it all slotted into place."

Markus and Mirko both from Erfurt, a small town in East Germany, arc already teutonic household names. Markus owns JoueJoue, the biggest house club in the area, which attracts luminaries including DJ Falcon and DJ Angel. Whilst Mirko hosted `Club Rotation' the Saturday night club slot on Germany's biggest private radio station for 6 years.

The two met 3 years ago. Mirko wanted to play in the club and Markus wanted to be on the radio, and a perfect symbiosis was formed. Says Markus: "One night at JoueJoue I felt really ill and Mirko offered to play ping pong (back to back) with me. The crowd loved it and it became a regular thing. Producing was a natural progression, we were continually looking in each others boxes for records that weren't there and so decided to make our own."

The name Boogie Pimps is actually derived from Markus's hip hop collection: "I'm into Jay Z and Snoop and pimp just came from 'pimpin'," he explains. And as for boogie? "That's from a 70s soft porn vid I used to watch," lie smiles. "But I won't say anymore about that."
