How To Read Guitar Tabs

OK sorry i didnt make my question clearer, i was really tired, but my question is , is there something diffrent with the tabs from http://tabcrawler.com because when i tried to play smoke on the water it tells you to use open fret then 3rd fret and if you ask me those are way way to high pitch to be the correct frets. Any ideas?
