Your getting a 2k computer with a cheap graphic card and ONLY 512mb of ram

asmithz
01-27-2004, 09:00 AM
I don't think it is a 2k comp. 512mb is better then 126mb, anywayz i can upgrade any time. 128MB grafics card isnt bad.

Also i am ask if this is a good price for what i am getting

Keikan
01-27-2004, 09:03 AM
Ya but the graphics are 5200fx.

I guess it's a good computer since it comes with all the "Extras" but still...

asmithz
01-27-2004, 09:08 AM
Well its hard to find a store around here with a good comp. I don't have a credit card to buy online also.

Heres one from CompUSA

http://www.compusa.com/products/product_in...7520&pfp=BROWSE (http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=307520&pfp=BROWSE)

Its less then $2000 in the store and come with a moitor. It dosen't come with DVD-RW and DVD drive in the store. I don't remember what it was.

I atleast want to know if with the 5200FX will i be able to play Final Fantasy XI?

Livy

you could build a better system for far less, and can customize how you want it. case and parts.

ill go have a look at pruice for a very comparable system

for about the same system on ebuyer by using parts about $1400 which is $500 cheaper

but if u spend time, and used a better online place, u could prob get it cheaper,. or better system for you $2000

RGX
01-27-2004, 12:50 PM
i agree with livy, that PC would be so much cheaper when bought from parts, and all the software you mentioned can be easily downloaded for free.

Livy
01-27-2004, 01:40 PM
the software is pretty crap anywa, works suite, and a 30-day free trial of norton. and winxp home, corp is better. although there isnt much difference

bigdawgfoxx
01-27-2004, 09:00 PM
Yeah..building one would be best. But he said he doesnt have a credit card to order online...soo i duno

adamp2p
01-27-2004, 09:39 PM
No it is not a good deal at all.

Edit: you really should not buy a pre-configured computer like that. You usually get cheap parts that way. Is CompUSA the Only store you can go to? Can you go to Best Buy?

kaiweiler

2mb cache on the HD, that's bad
also only 3 pci slots
get one built, or build one yourself!

2 it only goes up to 8mb and right now i don't even have a cahce. Also its only a 120gig hard disk drive. ALso 3 PCI slots is normal ;)

@adamp2p, yeah i can go to best buy, why? CompUSA makes custom computer i believe.

@Livy, I know as i said i am reformating and putting XP pro and other OS's. Norton i am switching with norton corp.

To everyone, i am not asking if for the price i am paying am i getting the best computer ever made. I am asking if its good for the price i am paying.

No
an 8 mb cache over a 2 makes quite a difference
also 3 PCI is not normal at all

I know 8 is better then 2, but a 120GB comes with 2MB cache not 8.

Also right now i am looking to see if CompUSA makes custom comps, i beleive they do.

CompUSA dosen't make custom computers <_< :(
Is it hard to put it put together yourself?

kaiweiler
01-28-2004, 12:01 AM
it's not difficult if you have at least a little bit of common sence and some general knowledge of computers and dont mind reading up a little bit....
i've built one before and i'm no genious

no...not its a lot like lego, each part can only go in one place basically.

actually the only part that i tihnk you could even screw up on is putting the heatsync onto the cpu. Putting the thermal paste on isnt too hard but if you dont read about how to do it you could do it extremely wrong, but if you use a thermal pad (should already be on the heatsync if you use stock) then you cant really screw that up.

I have put everything in my computer that i have now. I am just worried about the motherboard, cuz i never put one in a computer. (everything else i have)

Also i would like to know some good cases i should look for. Also a good mother board, someone was talking about 64bit mother board awhile back. WHat do you think i should be going for. Thats is in my price range and don't have to get online. Thanks so much for your help on this.

kaiweiler
01-28-2004, 12:04 AM
exactly, and its a lot of fun! :P
also you get a lot better of a comp for a lot cheaper!

tesco
01-28-2004, 12:08 AM
motherboards pretty easy you screw these little metal risers into the case then site the board on top of them then screw it in. but before putting it in the case you should seat the ram and cpu and heatsync.

asmithz
01-28-2004, 12:09 AM
Heres the first case that catches my eye, but is it any good?

Whats the best grafics card?

I need all the information for when i go buy it. Please :(

kaiweiler
01-28-2004, 12:12 AM
yes those cases are nice, i like the blue one better, or maybe the silver with blue LED, you choose lol
yes also stay away from the 5200, you can find a lot better card for the same price, i think someone already linked you to a 5600 for the same price
I would definatly go with building one though, and if you have any questions, you can ask em here!

whats the best graphics card?
that is intirely up to the person, some prefer ATI some prefer nVidia, its your choice, both have pros and cons, myself, i'm an ATI man lol
i know i have the HIS Excalibur 9600XT and it is very nice! but the best from ati is clearly the 9800XT but they are comeing out with a whole new line of cards this year i believe so that will soon change
are you looking for the best card? or the best card for your money?

shop around, check newegg.com for sure

kaiweiler
01-28-2004, 12:23 AM

yer and if hes going to be a gamer, then a radeon 9600xt at least (or even better 9800 pro/XT),

i dont know how much they are in US/CN $

a list of radeon 9600xt (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?DEPA=1&submit=Go&description=radeon%2C9600xt)

Yeah...remember Price RANGE!

By the time games even use 256MB PCI express will be working and all the new version ATI cards will be out...dont get 256Now..save the money to get the new version ATIs with PCI express! If you get the 9700Pro and not the 9800Pro 256MB...then you already have saved $130 which you can spend on a new card! lol

asmithz

NONE! Why are you buying from them? Buy from newegg.

Its about pipelines my friend.

9600 Series has 4 Pipelines and is more of a budget/gaming card.

9700 Series has 8 pipelines and is an awesome gaming card..the 9800 and 9700 Series are on the same level...just the 9800 has a higher clock speed!

Go with the 9700Pro for $200.

all in wonders are great if you plan on using those functions, but my guess is you probably wouldn't use anything more then what a regular card with video-in/video-out has, so it may be a waste of extra money that could be put into a higher end card

here is my two cents. If you still want a whole computer, look on ebay. there are reatilers who asemble them and sell them for not that much more than if you were to put it together yourself. Also they have ones with lcds for under 2k see link.

If I were you I would be very careful buying such an expensive item off of ebay.

If you must buy a preconfigured computer, you might as well buy it from a company with a good name and a strong warranty.

I'd build my own if I knew how and if I had the money. It would take me a year or two before I could save up £2,000(Google told me that's about $3,650 :P) and there would be better and more expensive hardware by then. But I think I could get a pretty good computer for that price. B) So anyway I think if you have the money and you feel like you could build your own I think you should do it.

Agent Smith, you should compare your desires with your funds.
make up a wish list of components that you really
want and then downsize to your budget.

use froogle to help you...
http://froogle.google.com/froogle?hl=en&lr...=Search+Froogle (http://froogle.google.com/froogle?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&tab=ff&q=asus+motherboards&btnG=Search+Froogle)
this for example has a asus a7n8xe-deluxe
and a asus a7n8x-dlx to compare specs and price.
choices are many, forum members can provide insight
but you must decide what is important and remember changes and
improvements will continue...what is best today is not tomorrow.

take your time, unless your present system is about to fall apart, it is a lot
of money your spending and you should consider accordingly.
