the new hard drive is listed in the BIOS, but not in Windows? you do realize that the hard drive is not ready-to-use right away, and that it needs to be formatted for use with your system, right?

you can format the hard drive by booting with a DOS floppy, with the Windows CD, or you could boot into Windows and then use a program like Partition Magic to format the new drive.

I will try to format now.

Thanks!

You need to partition and format the drive.

In Windows XP: Start>Control Panel>Switch to Classic View>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk Management.

All what you need is right there.

Partitioning and formatting is Software isn't it?

yes, you should do that. hard drives are sold in a "raw" condition because the same models can be used with many different types of systems (including Windows, Mac, etc), then you format them for compatibility with whichever system you're using.

yes, this is normal, its due to how manufacturers mesaure drive space, and how every one else does. #
