That's because u don't get viruses from songs u get them from programs.

I think it is impossible to get a virus from a song. The things to check are any kind of software, pictures and in particular key generators and crack programmes. I once had a key generator that carried 15 different viruses. My Anti Virus went mad and cleared the lot!

:D :D :D :D

I got my AV program off of Kazaa. It works great. I also got it before all the viruses started showing up on Kazaa, so that might be why it works. Get a good AV and you don't have to worry much. I havn't gotten a virus since I installed Norton.

Awhile back, I downloaded a .rar file that contained a virus...(supposed to be a key generator or CD crack). I'm a bit smarter now. I use AVG to scan my received files before opening any. Caught several, probably because I mostly dl programs. ;)

Actually MP3 files can contain virii. A while back, there was a bug in (guess) WMP which allowed arbitrary code execution when playing an infected MP3.

That's why you must always check file size, because the more common viruses have very small sizes.

I have to be extra careful, because my Norton program may be secretly in league with the enemy.

You will not get a virus off of Kazaa Lite unless the file is Executable (i.e. .exe, .bat, .scr, and others no music or video files) and only if you run the file. Anyone who uses the internet should have the common sense to have an up to date virus scan. You can get a clean full iso version of Norton Anti Virus off of bit torrent (it's practically available on every torrent site around) check suprnova.org.

haxor... That bug was not with mp3 files, it was with .wma files. Windows Media Player didn't discriminate between mp3 and wma extensions, you could rename a wma to mp3 and Windows Media Player would play it. WMA can contain 3rd party information (the format makes this possible so artists can include webcontent with their files and so on), the bug exploited this wma format feature, Windows Media Player's horrible coding, and idiots who use wmp to play their mp3's.

nothing to worry about for anyone with half a brain

Tips:
Always use an anti virus
Always keep your software updated

If you don't do either of these, then don't even bother using a computer because YOU ARE AN IDIOT

there are all sorts of trojans, hidden file ext, worms, and backdoor virus threats...media files can also be used ie(some are not what what they seem)...an experienced hacker can loosen security settings, run malious code/scripts,execute and/or damage exe.files, modify registry, and invade your privacy, and use this info and mods to compromize your pc...that is why antivirus software is not enough, you also MUST have a good firewall...i have winxp and it comes with a firewall built-in to the system, but that offers very little protection(it'snot an effective firewall) so i disable it and use a good security system like NIS...

A common misconception - People can put .shs keyloggers into any type of file.

Lots of people spread trojans on Fasttrack, also Norton sucks ass when it comes to detecting trojans, It takes less than 5 minutes to make a trojan undetectable to Norton. Use McAfee and KAV along with a good firewall for protection against trojans. Check filesizes, but this isn't a guarantee since you can bind files together. I used to spread trojans on Fasttrack, lots of people fall for binding the malicious file to a crack. Actually the "How to hack hotmail" file telling you to confuse the bot by sending it to some jackoff's email gets a CRAPLOAD of vics. If you don't get what I'm talking about, just go to K-lite and search for How to hack Hotmail to find tons of stupid bullshiy articles.

I have gotten a virus from a keygenerator. Why was a virus in a keygen? Do you think the manufactuers put it in there or something? My avg on my old machine caught it. Now I have a new pc and I have Norton.

Dont download crackfiles/keygens from kazaa, there's other better alternatives.
Keep Your antivirus program updated.

avg is is a better antivirus then norton...it detects many viruses that norton misses...but i do like norton firewall...i check for security updates three times a day(viruses suck)...but if you are the type of person that likes writing and trojaning computers, i think that you should do this to large corporations or buisnesses, not to your peers...
