Cult movies are probably my favourite genre and I was wondering if you had to pick one cult movie as your favourite what would it be. I think if i had to choose it would be between Being John Malkovich and Donnie Darko but i think Donnie Darko would be the winner, but only just!!

In case anyone doesn't know what a cult movie is, its a film which appeals to a limited but fanatical market. They tend to be films which did not do too well at the box office but have a huge follwing (donnie darko is a prime example).

I'm interested to get some feedback to see if theres perhaps such a movie out there made for me that I havent came across yet.

Ciao

No doubt about this one - Withnail & I!

Not sure if you can find it on Kazaa though, and I think it may be a little too "english humour" for some :P

You've just reminded me of that one. I've not seen it mysefl but several of my friends speak very highly of it. If you ever do happen to come across it in kazaa could you let me know, I'd appreciate it

Cult be thought of in several different ways, however your explanation is fine for me. The Boondock Saints would be one and Quiet Cool was excellent and a newer one would be Riders or Steal(known by both names), it was pretty good and I do not think it was ever released.

:zorro: i had to use this one, I used to have that or similar as my avatar.

Yes, definately!!! :D

What's that one with Demi Moore as a stripper?

And oh yes, Grease could be called a cult movie by now, I suppose.
Last, but certainly not least, is my all time favourite: White Christmas.
Watch it EVERY year on BBC. :">

 That is not a CULT movie, but a movie just for GUYS or Lesbians may actually turn out to be a cult movie   , so maybe you are correct after all.

Striptease (in answer to your question about Demi's strip movie) is right up there with Showgirls, Guys and Lesbians love them both  .

And as I am a guy I would have to agree.

Wasn't "wag the dog" about faking a war for ratings? I have the download, just have never watched it. I just may if you say it is worth watching.

Showgirls, Striptease, Basic Instinct, Eyes Wide Shut... :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

I think The Boondock Saints ("In nomine padre, et fili et spiritu sancti") and Memento are good cult movies.

Thanks to everyone for reminding me about some absolute classic cult movies that I might otherwise have forgotten about like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Braindead and Bad Taste.

I'm off now to do some serious downloading and indulge in a spot of nostalgia

Cheers!!

I knew FC would be involved with the word CULT in the string name.

Big Trouble In Little China is a great movie, however The Boondock Saints should be a must see for any male of the human species that is looking for a cult classic.

Reservoir Dogs and The Usual Suspects both pop to mind also, were not huge theater draws, however totally became CULT classics.

Braveheart was a mainstream epic not a CULT movie. But I liked it very much also, having Scottish ancestory and watching the all of the ass kicking by the Scottish was very cool.

I think he (Lynch) still is a good director - Twin Peaks (the movie) might qualify as cult movie...

Gave it some more thought - twelve monkeys would be amongst my alltime favourits...

12 Monkeys is cool, but my favs in no order:

Fight Club

Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

my favorite ones would have to be kevin smiths movies of the "Jersey Trilogy" (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy... even though they are "Cult Comic" but w/e, Kevin Smith is the man) and u cant forget Dogma and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back... Those were two of the best... B)

Ok...Ok...you want a good real 'cult' film? Than look no further than Pink Flamingos. The crown jewel of all John Waters gross out films. I mean for those who havent seen it, if you cant handle a transvestite eating dog poo...than Id advise not watching it.

Edit: I forgot three other great cult films: Pi, Cube, and Requiem for a Dream.

Gotta love Troma!! hahaha

Some more of my favs:

Donnie Darko
Boondock Saints
Snatch
Requiem For a Dream (cult movie? I think it is, considering the the director's previous movie, "Pi.")
Eraser Head
The Big Lebowski (Perhaps one of the Coen Brothers lesser known titles)
The Little Shop of Horrors
Rocky Horror Picture Show
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (Though it did actually do well in the box office, I would consider this title to be a cult classic.)

oh, and of course, I mentioned earlier "A Clockwork Orange."

Yup John Waters (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Waters,%20John). The undisputed king of filth. His films are definitely not for everyone, actually...I really dont know who they are for. The're way out there. All though he did go more mainstream in the 90's with films like Serial Mom and Pecker. <_<

Traci Lords thing?

I was talking about the user comment under the description of "Pink Flamingos."

"What can you say about Pink Flamingos other than that it's some pretty sick crap. If you are not easily offended this will probably test and break your limits. The real life dog excrement dinig scene at the end isn't half as offensive as the man who ties various meat to his penis. There's enough close up shots of penis to make any hetrosexual man squirm. And the female nudity is nothing to look at either. The man who flex his a**hole muscle is beyond strange. And can you say sex with a chicken. Yes a live chicken. This movie goes great with Meet The Feebles for an evening of trying to get rid of that annoying somebody forever. If you can watch this movie and come out not shocked you've just about seen it all. Give it a 6 out of ten. "

Oh i c. I thought by movie review, you meant the one for Cry Baby. But yeah youre right, Pink Flamingos is extrmely disturbing. And what the guy wrote there isnt the worst of it. Divine aka "The Most Beautiful Woman in the World" (not my personal thoughts, thats just what she was called) who is also a man in drag by the way...eats...real dog poop. No joke, for the end of the film to make herself seem like the grossest person (and to make it look realistic) she ate real dog poop. Not some fake mixture made to look like it, she ate...a pile of crap. If that doesnt gross you out I dont know what will
