Poll request from shn (http://filesharingtalk.com/index.php?showuser=33294).

Personally i think he's still using Dos a lot. :P
Try not to make it an OS-flame-war. ;)

this is indeed a tricky one...

i reckon he has a huge file server running Linux, but for the most part i reckon XP, or longhorn if he is playing with it - though i reckon he doesnt do much on his pc himself, cos why would he need to? hes so damn rich, he could afford to have people do everything for him, and he sure dont need p2p. I would guess he spends more time minding his shares than actually using a pc.

wow, i thought long and hard about such a daft question

 Why is Lindows there?

Anyways.... I might have to say ALL of them. If he is still a good programmer (cough) and still does some work in MS, then I have to guess he uses all because he would be making constant changes to everything.

He doesn't need an OS :

thanks to the non-human electrified hands he bought for exactly 157.568.253 billion dollars, he can now plug himself directly in the phone lines.... Hence, his brain cells are connected to the net, 24/7, where he constantly spy programmers, steal ideas, download porn and try to find the newest MP3's on K-Lite...

And sometimes, on very special occasions, when his rare friends come to dinner, he pretends to be working on the Longhorn :P

In 8/03, Microsoft changed its DNS so www.microsoft.com would not be handled by Microsoft's in-house servers, but by the Akamai caching system, which runs Linux.

But the plot thickens... how can they be using Linux and IIS 6.0?

Check this out:
$ telnet www.microsoft.com http
Trying 213.161.82.44...
Connected to a562.cd.akamai.net.
Escape character is '^]'.
HEAD / HTTP/1.1
Host: www.microsoft.com

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Server: Microsoft-IIS/6.0

X-Powered-By: ASP.NET

Cache-Control: max-age=0, no-cache, no-store
Pragma: no-cache
Date: Sun, 17 Aug 2003 15:35:25 GMT

It's a mystery...

PS: I voted for Linux.

Let's Do The Lindows Rock... La la la la la la la

I voted XP, I reckon he knows it's the most stable for home computing and wouldn't use anything else aside from M$ Software.

@Haxor - they went back to MS software after like 6 months of using linux servers. AFAIK they are currently using Windows 2k3 Server.

@Samurai - I completely disagree with you in the statement that he doesn't use anything but MS software. Ever heard of "know your enemy"? Well, Bill HAS to use Linux somehow, not to mention study it (thank open source for that) so that he brings out something that he can compete with.

@stupidguy - He doesn't use a computer often? Hmmmm. Not even gonna go there :smilie4:

@Zeda - hehe, correct!!!! :P

Of course he studies Linux OS but not on his personal computer. He has workers in their workshops doing that stuff.

I gues a has installed a few OS on his PC at home, but I think he uses XP most.
He sure has also some PDAs and stuff that he uses often.

What would be more interesting is , what hardware he uses ??

I've heard he hadnt typed a single line of code since the early years, whilst he was running microsoft, before steve ballmer took over day-to-day running of the company.

in 1998, Barbara Walters interviewed Bill Gates for 20/20. one of the things he talked about was the technology in his uber-computerized mansion. i can't find a transcript, so here's a coupla quotes from the Seattle Times' article about that interview:

The first night in his new house, Gates told Walters, he watched a big-screen TV that pops up out of a console in his bedroom. But things went awry when he tried to go to sleep.

"He couldn't get it to go down, he couldn't get it to turn off, so he just put a big blanket over the thing," she said. Gates has joked that everything from light switches to music speakers goes on and off unexpectedly in the house, which is run by a high-end PC network built on Microsoft's Windows NT system.

....

Gates also talks about his plans to give away his fortune and what it feels like to be called "evil" and "the devil." He takes Walters for a ride in a Ford Explorer equipped with AutoPC, a new navigation and communication device for vehicles that features Microsoft's Windows CE system.

so... Bill Gates' mansion runs Windows NT. and his truck runs Windows CE.

i also saw a few claims on the 'net, that he bought an iMac for his mother 'cause he thought it'd be easier for her to use. and some other claims that he has a Mac in his own office. that's not a totally crazy idea though, since MS are not a PC manufacturer-- their fate doesn't depend on the x86 platform, and they do publish Mac software. heck, you can even run Windows on an Apple comp with VirtualPC (which is owned now by... um... Microsoft).

he definitely uses Windows, and prolly at least has some experience with Unix, Linux and MacOS.

Lol, that was in 98, it's 2004.

He's probably got a supercomputer now

LSA
02-15-2004, 12:52 AM
Debian or Gentoo

I bet he is a smart guy (evil, not doubt, but he is the ceo of a major computer industry company), why would he use an os designed for ease of use when he could have an os designed for stability and security?!

But if he has a supercomputer he probably uses unix or whatever super puters run on

I GUARANTEE HE USES DOS!!! LOL LONG LIVE DOS THE GREATEST OS THERE IS! i miss dos :(

seriously tho, i doubt he uses a computer very often and when he does its probably just 2 work on the next windows, other then that, he pays some1 to do his net surfing and sshit like that, gates doesnt need 2 deal w/ the bullshit he created like windows crashing and unknown errors u cant fix, he go crazy if he had 2 deal w/ that shit and nvr make another microsoft program again. i vote 4 longhorn beta
