When using Internet Explorer, if I try to download any files from the internet I can only download two files simultaneously. Is there any way to increase this number?

Copy everything in bold writing to notepad and save it as "IEMaxConnections.reg" or something similar(JUST MAKE SURE ITS GOT THE .REG EXTENSION).Then double click and it adds the reg entries to ya registry.May need to reboot afterwards

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:00000020
"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=dword:00000020

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:00000020
"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=dword:00000020

I know this isn't really any of my business but......why on earth would you want to change it???

Cause Internet Explorer is gay and only lets you download 2 files at once by default....Thats ok if your on dial-up, but for big cable connections,T1,T3 etc, its a bit of a bitch

That is correct, although I use a download manager for those matters, not to mention it's faster :)

Is there any reason to limit it to 20? Why not make it 50 or 1000? Will there be any negative consequences if you go to high?

Download Mangaers will be obsolete shortly...theres too many sites that block download managers already(reason y i uninstalled mine) and those that havent will probably in the near future

The default HTTP sessions is 4, at least in XP, and some downloads require more than one connection, so increasing it actually helps with speed in some cases. Also, if you open more than one web page at one time, for example in tabbed browsers, then incresing the maximum is a good idea. Another thing, if you don't increase it, then pop-ups or just ads in general can be a kick in the ass, as many work on many different servers.

Check this out TCP Optimizer (http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php)
A free optimizing program that makes the neccesary registry entries for you.

I have that program on my computer somewhere..its not gonna make a noticeable difference increasing your speed.The only speed hack is to get a T3 line...lol
And yes the default http connections is 4 but i only lets you download 2 files at a time and like you said it sometimes takes more than one connection

I concur :D

T3, definately. lol.

Well, I think it depends on the system because I did notice a difference. Well, I choose the extreme option. Don't know if that makes too much of a difference. But, hey, at least you don't have to edit the registry by hand, for those who are afraid to. :D

not if u set the user_arent string to the one that ie has.
if your dl manager doesnt support that directly you can still change it with other sw

@Java Boy:
My bad, I thought you were the guy that started this thread.

And sites don't block download accelerators, they just block multiple connections. Even if you're using, say IE, you could only download as many files at once as the admin let you.

Java Boy

my bad too...mouthing of a bit too much there...
good explanation about multiple connections! :P

Its all rubbish!

Java Boy

I wouldnt worry about it... <_<
It depends on what the sites admin lets you have (how many connections your allowed at once)
It doesnt matter what settings you change in your browser or download managers settings ...it all comes down to the website policy/admin

Do you mind elaborating on that Java Boy. Im sure inquiring minds would love to hear your theory.

and thats strange because to tell you the truth websites really have no other way of identifying you or your browser unless they use one of two things.

Your user agent string as cselik stipulated above and cookies which tend to expire after a session or two.

So im just curious what this website policy/admin thing is you speak of and how it can be setup to deny access to files from download managers despite using the method that cselik posted, which by the way would allow you to bypass such restrictions.

Btw, I was not referring to the ip address issues and concurrent connections and what not. Thats another topic. ;)

Doesn't Kazaa Lite also use IE for it't built in browser? This has always troubled me cos' I don't trust IE $#@%^&%$#@

@Shn
Im just installing a download manager now to go try it out on sites now that dont allow mulitiple connections etc
And then Ill be back to post my theory...lol
