I was just wondering if anyone believes in the sixth sense. I know I do. How many times have you been going to do something, then for some unknown reason you change your mind. Later you find that you were glad you did not do it because it would have disastrous consequences.

Is it not the case that you make these sort of decisions all the time.

It's just that some of them are very memorable, the bus you didn't catch sort of thing.

You just dont remember the ones where nothing really happenns.

Yeah, i'm a believer!!

And i feel it's not common sense.

It feels like more than common.

Lots of people act a lot without thinking. Their actual awareness of why they decide

something totally switched off.....

And that's good. You would get crazy overthinking the billions of decisions you

make daily.

But you can train yourself to a higher awareness on certain issues.

It's then, you start to realise how many things you just do........because..

Funny thing is, i get this higher awareness, call it a better sixth sense, especially

when i'm in warmer country's....

It's usually called ESP, but I call mine "Well, then...better not, huh?"

Quite so, Yogi-

I think instances such as described are, due to striking circumstances, lumped together due to a very human urge to catagorize exceptional occurrences.

I think this is normal; it makes sense for us to do this as it lends to keeping one's "attic" organized, yes?

The mere fact of it is serendipitious, wouldn't you say? :)

Don't give in to reasoning it takes all the fun out of life. Believe what you want to believe, no one can prove your wrong. Its like believing in religion - its faith - Like someone said in the supernatural thread.. we only understand and use a small percentage of our brains full ability. So who knows and can say i know or your wrong, not to many people in this world.

I disagree with Hobbes and I am deeply offended by the off-hand nature of his comments about this topic.

Surely he is bringing his agenda, that most people don't think things through to anticipate complications before acting, to the thread, disrupting the topic.

A simple play with words, that is all he did.

The sixth sense deals with illogic, not logic, which is the realm of common sense.

When I am about to board a bus but turn away, I cannot logically explain why, it is just a feeling, it is the 6th sense. Common sense would turn me away from the bus, because I have my own car.

I think Jpol and J2 have summed up what it means to me, I can't improve upon what they have said.

I just posted this to tell Hobbes that the next time he wants to highjack a thread for his silly little jokes to STFU.

Hobbes has indeed been a little "off" since he began practicing extra-sanguinity. :D

As re: the topic at hand-

I find that, in my case, any incidents of this type are of the "I had better do this" rather than the "I had better not..." sort.

Anyone else?

I dunno about a 6th sense.. all I know is that theres an old friend of mine who I grew up with.
We've known each other since the day we started school at the age of 5.
When we turned 30, he suddenly moved clear across the country to work on a prawn boat... he's always loved the sea so it was hardly surprising when he left.

Odd thing is, whenever he's coming to visit, I start thinking about him the week before he gets here... his name just suddenly pops into my head and all these old memories of us playing together as kids come flooding back.

Oh.. and he doesn't return on regular occasions.. sometimes it's 3 years between visits, other times it's only 6 months... and he never calls, because he likes surprising people.
Once the memories start up, I know that within a week, he'll be standing on my doorstep again. Weird, but kinda cool.

There is one odd thing:

I'll be reading, with the TV or radio on in the background?

Either of two things will happen-I will read a certain word and then almost immediately hear it spoken, or hear the word and then immediately read it.

Yes-animals have remnant behaviors and inapropos talents that are very mysterious. When I was a kid, I had horses, rabbits, cats, dogs, etc.

There were times they all acted up at once; three, four hours later, something would happen.

Talk about goofy remnant behavior:

I have a ragdoll cat-supposed to be bereft of most of his "survival-type" instincts?

Makes for some odd moments-doing the pre-pounce wind-up thing, tail switching, back up, etc., and then all the air comes out of him and he lays down and sleeps.
