The phrase "as mad as a hatter" comes from the 19th century.
Hatmakers of that era used a mercury solution to treat the felt that the hats were made from. As a result they suffered toxic poisoning which caused uncontrollable shakes and violent outbursts.

No every thing will be scrambled there will be no stable north or south.http://www.firstscience.com/SITE/IMAGES/ARTICLES/magnet/comparison1_strip.gif

They've also learned what happens during a magnetic flip. Reversals take a few thousand years to complete, and during that time - contrary to popular belief - the magnetic field does not vanish. "It just gets more complicated," says Glatzmaier. Magnetic lines of force near Earth's surface become twisted and tangled, and magnetic poles pop up in unaccustomed places. A south magnetic pole might emerge over Africa, for instance, or a north pole over Tahiti. Weird. But it's still a planetary magnetic field, and it still protects us from space radiation and solar storms.

And, as a bonus, Tahiti could be a great place to see the Northern Lights. In such a time, Larry Newitt's job would be different. Instead of shivering in Resolute Bay, he could enjoy the warm South Pacific, hopping from island to island, hunting for magnetic poles while auroras danced overhead.

Polonium has more isotopes than any other element, all of which are radioactive. Polonium dissolves readily in dilute acids, but is only slightly soluble in alkalis.

Weight for weight it is about 2.5 x 1011 times as toxic as hydrocyanic acid (HCN). Polonium has been found in tobacco as a contaminant and in uranium ores.

Polonium is radioactive and excessivley rare in nature. It is made in very small qunatities through a nuclear reaction of bismuth. Neutron irradiation of 209bismuth (atomic number 83) gives 210polonium (atomic number 84).

209Bi + 1n 210Po + e-

Metallic polonium can be fractionally distilled from the bismuth or electrodeposited onto a metal surface such as silver.

Your hair can not turn 'White' overnight.

Human hair grows about half an inch a month. So it would take weeks for it to turn comletely white. The roots would show white long efore this was completed. so without the aid of 'bleach' it just does not happen.

One thing to take into consideration though. If someone dyes their hair to hide 'ageing' goes and has a shower then discovers that they have run out of dye. Then it would be a good excuse for their hair turning white.

Global warming is Not Real. I went to New York City on a school field trip, and there we went to the museum of natural history and there was a big display on global warming. Scientists did a 30 year study that proved that global warming dosn't exist and if it does it's such a insignificant amount that wouldn't effect anything. Glass is a liquid.

A very viscous one, but a liquid none the less.
There isn't any proof to support this theory. Nor is there any to disprove it, so I suppose the jury is still out

Anyhow here's my fact: This is how you spell facetious.
Also, the word facetious is the only word in the english language which contains all the vowels, in alphabetical order.

A few more facts about words in the english language....

Bookkeeper, when spelt correctly (as it has been here), is the only word that has 3 consecutive sets of double letters.

Deny is the only word that ends with the letters eny.

There is no english word for the area on the back of the human leg, behind the knee.

Nope, vertically, not horizontally.

England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people. So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a "bone-house" and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive. So they thought they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, led it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell. Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the "graveyard shift") to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be "saved by the bell," of was considered a "dead ringer."

Stage contortionists, practitioners of advanced yoga and others may appear to have unusual joints. The truth is that heredity and constant exercise have given the fibrous tissue binding their bones together more elasticity than most people's.

Fact: flying fish dont fly.

There are about a hundred species of fish that fall within the general category popularly called flying fish. But none of them is capable of genuine flight.

These fish which have enlarged pectoral fins, that look like wings, can, however, glide just above the surface of the water at about 10 mph for up to 200 yds. They have even been known to land accidentally on the decks of passing boats. Their gliding is usually an effort to escape predators, particularly dolphins.

Flying squirrels don't fly either :o :o

The flying squirrel (Glaucomys sabrinus) is a sociable, noisy rodent that doesn't really fly; it glides from trees, using a flap of loose skin that connects its front and hind legs It can glide up to 150 feet (46 m), steering with its tail. It lands on a tree trunk, gripping it with all four feet.

This squirrel is nocturnal (most active at night). It has a life span of about 5 years in the wild, and about 13 years in captivity. Flying squirrels live in deciduous forests in North America. The flying squirrel is an endangered species.

Anatomy: Flying squirrels have brown-gray fur, large eyes, and clawed feet. Northern flying squirrels are about 8 inches (20 cm) long (plus a 6 inch (15 cm) long tail. Southern flying squirrels are smaller and more aggressive than Northern flying squirrels. Baby flying squirrels are born in nests (usually in tree cavities) and are blind and hairless at birth.

Diet: Squirrels eat mostly plants, like seeds, nuts, leaves, maple sap, bulbs, bark, flowers, and roots. Less often, they eat insects, eggs, worms, eggs, small birds, and other small animals.

Predators: Flying Squirrels are hunted by weasels, foxes, hawks, and coyotes.

You (Astrid) and danb (Danielle) have revealed yourselves to be of the female persuasion, yes?

Hence the fact of your having infested (no offense intended) this thread.

I was merely attempting to evince a loutish chauvinism, for comedic effect.

One of the following is therefore fact:

1-I failed in my attempt at humor.

2-You have failed to appreciate my attempt at humor.

I have not the slightest idea which of these two is correct.

Fact: The ACLU and NAMBLA are forming up a unified effort to legalize trans-species homosexuality.

Hamsters are reportedly in an uproar over the news.

Hmmm.

No, Boab-

I think I'll stick with which is, over which are.

The latter would seem to indicate the possibility that more than one could be correct; as there are only two choices, I think that clarity is sufficient.

Good point, though; the ladies would have insisted I correct my faux pas, had I made one. :)

Do you mean you would like to know which one is more 'right' than the other. This is all rather confusing because both of them are raving loonies.

It is all far too confusing for me as I have not had my dinner yet.

And I was so studiously trying to avoid making that same point! :P

Enjoy your dinner, sir. :)
