looks to me like the guy who had the job of putting the bits from mars into a pic had some trouble and mistranslanted a few pices of code when he put the bits back together so it made weird looking thinks on the rocks or ground

The first pic from one of the viking landers actually had a blue atmosphere because the guy messed up in the decoding of the pic and the press had a field day with it saying mars was like earth

ehh at least thats what i have read in many articles and such
