View Full Version : The Glass, How Do You See It?

So my son asks me, "If I pour water into a glass so that the glass is filled to exactly the half the capacity of the glass, would you say it's half full or half empty?"

In a moment of enlightenment I choose to answer "I'm not sure but I'll bet that half the glasses in our house are sitting dirty in your room!"

Somehow that answer didn't help him with his assignment. :P

I went nuts over this with my elder son. Thought it was just him. Now my younger son is doing it. Is there some conspiracy or is this a natural phenomenon?

So how many dirty drinking glasses are in your room?

cheers omc

The glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
I don't have any dirty glasses/cutlery/plates in my room, but that's only because I don't drink/eat in my room.

The Glass is wet.

It should be dried, as its a breeding ground for bacteria at the moment...

I've got a big-ass empty frosted mug and an empty bottle of Jägermeister lying around

Hmmm,

Must be some cultural development that came about after I left home.

I try not to complain as I prefer the present situation compared to that faced by my parents. I never had dirty glasses in my room, because I didn't use them except at the table for meals. Just used to open the fridge and drink straight from the container.

Change is good.

It is right up there with rain, snow and tempest (and any other nasty natural phenomenon you can think of). In the end I just bought more glasses and hid a few so I have a personal supply.

I do not say it is half full or half empty, this is because i am too pissed off, and want to know who the hell has been drinking out of my glass.

If it is apple the glass is half empty, if it is lager the glass is half full.

It's a relativity thing. As Einstein explain it, sit on a hot stove for 5 seconds it seems like half an hour. Sit a pretty girl on your knee for half an hour, it seems like 5 seconds.

If you think positively you will say it is half full but if you think negatively ...then it's half empty.

If I have a glass of anything, I want that sucker FULL!

If it's half full, the glass needs topping up.
The same applies for a half empty glass.

If the glass is anything but full, all it means is that you have a lazy waiter. :P

...unless you're one of those people who have some huge phobia about top ups.
