hold W then use the mouse to tilt it. you will need a lot of A and D to control it. to hover just keep tapping W.

lean slightly forward then pull up to set off. dont let it spin too much, use A n D to sort that. if you start falling sideways, use A n D and the mouse to turn into or away from the way your falling, its probably best to pull both in the same direction, but try not to spin

buy a joystick and practice. Its to hard with keyboard and mouse.

Actually I find it's 10x more easier to fly with a keyboard than anything else, and I've played games such as Desert Combat, F-22 Raptor, F-22 Lightning 3, F-16 MRF & MiG-29. It just takes practice, that's all.

easier when flying a plane, but not so easy when flying a helicopter.

Actually, the game itself makes it far easier to fly a chopper than a plane.
You could take off in an F-16 and come off the map in 5 seconds, without looking where you're going. Also, far to easy to crash when dive bombing vehicles. Choppers are easier to manouver (sp?) as you only need to increase collective.
