After I had problems with my harddrives and win98 I decided to install winxp.

So I installed winxp pro, I haven't installed SP1 yet
Because I wanted to reformate my HDs to NTFS i backed up everything and used Partition magic to delete the 3 partitons on my 160GB Seagate.
But then when PM finished its job it shows me just about 126GB of unpartitioned space. Also when I create a new partition its just about 126GB big.

When I tried to use Discwizard from seagate I had the exact same problem.

Does anybody know what the problem is or how I can fix this?
Actually it dont want to loose about 30gigs

Thanks Benno :)

try using a win98 boot disk and boot up with it then type fdisk /mbr ...this will reset the master boot record, deleting all partitions and backup partitions then you can sue windows setup to create the partitions again during the install.

You need sp1 installed.
Why can I only see 127 to 137 GBytes of my 160 GB drive in Windows XP? (http://www.seagate.com/support/kb/disc/faq/137_winxp.html)

For next time, just get a WinXP CD with SP1 incorporated or even SP1a and RU1. I have 3 WinXP cds, each one that has come out :) (pro version, that is :D )

Just installed SP1a and now I see ~150GB I guess thats normal considering the space the filesystem uses and the KB/MB/GB arithmetic :)

@DWk I couldnt find a german XPpro with integrated SP1, thats why i had to install it separately :)

Uhhh not precisely. Even though it is my native(or first) language, I can speak english just as well. However, I prefer everything on the same language :D B)
