Morality seems to have gone out the window JP. Not that I am a believer, but I do think that religion taught morality. We will have to come up with an alternative. :)

What's this we? I hear you ask.

I stopped going to church when I found out our minister who was married was banging the secretary, who was also married. I think that people are just getting tired of spoonfed hypocrisy. I mean really how much more "Oh don't do this" "Oh shit I was caught doing that!" can we really stand.....

Replace religion with sprituality, and enlightened self-interest and we'll talk.

I have no comment to make at this time. I have decided I need more time to consider my position.

I will soon return with my carefully considered hypoprosfecies on the subject matter at hand.

1. Were they married to each other, if so what is the problem.

2. I prefer my hypocrisy on a sandwich, none of that spoonfeeding for me.

7. I don't even understand the enlightened self-interest part.

F. Mine's an apple, if you are going anyway.

2. Some Catholics that I have known were tired of the hypocrisy. It also was a wake up call when they found out the truth about the origins of Catholism. For me Catholic church was soooooooooo boring.

Really it is all hiphop these days. That is why kids today aren't going to church.
Hiphop has destroyed morality.

Enlightened- aware

Self interest - promotion or enjoyment of the self.

Enlightened self interest= You know how to enjoy yourself. An example would be having a series kickin' porn sites in your "favorites" list and enough lube to make use of them.

because the world is fed up with male dominated shit in it for the power, cash & the land  a world wher people looked after each other & the earth would be a much better idea :P ...but i`m afraid the church has been replaced by the media which i think is even a more rotting religion.....oops...new boy & already on one

I cant verify that church attendance is down...

I know in a recent US survey the number of peeps who said that they believed in God was up...

I know church attendance skyrocketed after 9/11 tragedy...maybe it's coming back down now?

I was a regular church goer til I was 14 yr old.
I started doubting the bible, as it has too many contradictions.
Now I think of it as a big fairy tale.

Although I dont believe in the hype, I still believe it is a good way to learn morals.
If you live by the commandments, you will be a good person no matter what you believe in. A lot of the ides's behind the bible came from pagan beliefs anyway.

I love the way churches bring people together, but I hate the brain washing and judgements on todays way of life. (gay rights, etc..)
When my "bump" is born, Im gonna send it to church for a few years to learn the difference between right and wrong, but when it says it doesnt wanna go anymore I will be supportive. I really hope churches dont die out, its an age old tradition that would be awful to see go.

Churches are empty because people just don't believe in invisible beings any more. They are fading away, just like the pharohs of ancient Egypt, the people didn't buy that crap any more. You can only go on for so long until your own God just doesn't even have the consideration of making a physical presence or some obvious miracle.

This has some interesting tables. I don't know much about the source organisation, but it appears reasonably scholarly without grinding axes (there were pro-religion and anti-religion ones which I thought best to avoid).

Whilst a little out of date, it does cover the impact of 9/11 and the period immediately after. It is perhaps not surprising that people felt the pull of participating in communal prayer during such a period. The period of reflection afterwards and the question Why? can ultimately lead to a decline.

I also went to church every week until I was 15, I even was an acolyte. The bible can teach us many good things, and most things I learnt about morality and ethics come from there. I stopped oing because of the lack of time and at a later age because I disagree with many points the catholic churc decides to promote.
Although I must agree, it DOES bring people together in a very nice way :)

No, I had to get everything ready for mass, bring the wine, water and bread, ring the bell, hand out the communion,...
Collect the money, count it afterwards, clean up when it's done.
Didn't have to do that alone though, there were 5 others :)
