ok my girl has like 400 tapes from Japan, China, and Thailand which i wanna convert to DVD...the problem is that here in the U.S. they won't play unless I have a multi system vcr...which are pretty expensive and I'm not trying to waste anymore money...im guessing the problem lies in the whole PAL NTSC thing so despite the fact that a picture won't show up can i still run it through the vcr to the comp and have a pic on there? Or is there any other way around this that I don't know of? Much thx!

Im guessing your vcr has got ntsc playback capabilites and your tv doesnt support ntsc. or vice versa.

Just hook the vcr up to the capture card in your PC and just try it out.

You should also be able to change the settings on your capture software so it plays the movie correctly.

I don't know about that, it might. I managed to play an NTSC movie sent from the US on my PAL only video just by changing the settings on the capture software.

Maybe it was NTSC compatible and didnt mention it on the hand book. Its certainly worth ago in any case.
