ahhhng wrong. To play resident evil 1 on windows xp, go to the resident evil execution file, right click and go to properties. Go to compatabilty tab and pick "windows 95" under the "run this program in compaitibility for". I also recommend installing the game rather than running from the disk. Like I said, after its installed, go to the disks(I think it is the disk), and find the resident evil.exe and make it 95 compatiable. Also there is a problem with the game when you play. Chris's scenario is fine but jill's freezes when she talks to barry near the blood. I know a guy that said he got it working by doing something...I think it was changing video mode right in the middle of game or something...don't quote me on it because I don't know. Also the game runs a little fast. The game speed seems to go a half a second faster than it should. It's hell when the dogs come and they are going faster than a cheetah...Anyway

Resident evil 3 runs on windows xp pro fine for me. Not sure why it isn't for you. Try turning the resident evil execution file to 95 or 98...i think I did that with RE3...not sure..

Good luck ;)

This may or may not work, but it won't hurt to try.

Go to the directory where you installed the game.

Right click on the game's .exe, choose Properties, then click on the compatibility tab.
Tick the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" check box and choose Windows 95. Click Apply then Okay.

See if the game works after that.
If not, then yup, you'll need win95.

(Actually, I'm a bit surprised nobody has suggested compatibility mode yet)
