Avatars And Signatures

An avatar is a little image that appears under Your username when You view a topic or post You authored. You may either choose one from the board gallery, or upload an avatar from Your harddrive.

Click here (http://filesharingtalk.com/index.php?act=UserCP&CODE=24) to add an avatar to Your profile.
You can choose between Pre-installed avatars or Your image avatars (upload an avatar from Your harddrive).

Use google (http://www.google.com) to find avatars.

A board signature is very similar to an email signature. This signature is attached to the foot of every message you post unless you choose to check the box that allows you to ommit the signature in the message you are posting.

Click here (http://filesharingtalk.com/index.php?act=UserCP&CODE=22) if You want to add text/images into Your signature.

Important:
Signatures and Avatars will be restricted in size and content. Consult rules 2 and 3 for restricted content. Combined file sizes for images used for avatars and in signatures may not exceed 100,000 bytes. Additionally, Signatures may not exceed 500x150 pixels in dimension. Signatures and avatars that do not comply may be removed or edited by a moderator or administator without notification.
The maximum dimension for an avatar can not exceed 80x80 pixels.

Adding to that, to find out the filename/hotlink for your avatar (which I couldn't find) right click your pic and click properties. Then copy that info to ..... its said above.

btw, the other pics aren't visible, well not to me anyway.

Dunno 'bout a name change; it would seem appropriate, but j2k4 has kind of a special significance-only to me, and I've kinda gotten attached to it. Unless I miss my guess, it also seems to piss some people off (?), so there's another reason to keep it. Now, a signature-I'm open to suggestions-unless I get a bolt from the blue, and who knows when that might happen, right? By the way, how did you suss out the URL? I don't have a bag of tricks, and I'm still learning to use my toolz.......

Actually it wasnt hard to find out the correct URL for the image....just clicked the thumbnail and choosed properties for the "real" image.

Anyway I just updated My first post and I now have a little sig that anyone can use.

This is definitely a purely sig-hosting service - Semi-strict in initial rules but worth it if you follow them. Main two points to know in advance is that the registration will not accept e-mail address from free e-mail providers (no Hotmail or Yahoo&#33; Mail), so you might want to dig out that POP3 address your ISP gave you if you don&#39;t use it often. Secondly, the hostings for two types of pictures - Sigs and avatars. Being caught hosting any other type of image for any other reason is likely to get you kicked off SigHost (possibly with extreme prejudice).

Otherwise, this is a great sig-hosting site to try - Very few members currently (about 500), which means that bandwidth isn&#39;t really a problem (they&#39;ve recently doubled it to what it was a few weeks back). Very short & concise site (no &#39;paying services&#39; sh*t yet), simple file manager for uploading & managing, forum. Most likely for those who don&#39;t need someone to hold their hand in the matter but just want to get the sig hosted.

Is it reliable? Check my sig & avatar for server stability - They&#39;re directly on SigHost.us, so if they&#39;re down the server is. But I&#39;ve only ever seen it happen once.

Even if You could upload that file, it wouldnt work here.

The following file types are allowed (On this board)

.gif .jpeg .jpg .png

Try save it as a .gif file.

I just wanted to let u know that one of the avatar sites u posted places a tracking cookie from Avenue A Inc in your system.........Supposedly it is no longer a tracking cookie.....but Spybot still has it on there list.

Um, yeah, I used the healing brush in Photoshop 7 because the photo was taken with a digital camera and I wanted to get rid of the speckles the camera produced. So? I don&#39;t claim to be a master of enhancing photos.

Yeah i got it now, just for people that where wondering, the value in pause must be in milliseconds so for 3 secs put in 300&#33;

I think it&#39;s 100 th of a second. If you look in the program it says "cs" right beside that setting. (cs for centi second)

So 300 = 3 seconds
& 1000 = 10 seconds

etc.

Some sites don&#39;t allow hotlinking to their images. If you find an picture that you want to use, but can&#39;t get it to work, then use your own host for it.

Maybe it is not a real gif (aka renamed from jpg to gif) and the server does notice that it is no gif. Many servers are set that you cant just rename a file cause it could contain code.

Just an idea since my servers for example are set this way for security reasons

Bear in mind that I don&#39;t know a lot about image manipulation, but the only way I can think of to solve your problem is to make the filesize of each frame of animation smaller. You can do this by putting each frame through Photoshop &#39;save for web&#39; function, then recompiling the animation with the smaller filesizes. This won&#39;t make the image smaller, just the filesize.

You&#39;ll lose a bit of the quality, but that&#39;s not likely to be a problem when it&#39;s as small as that.

It doesnt show up as sig - you reached your daily bandwidth so no image is displayed. Maybe you see it cause it&#39;s in your cache but we don&#39;t see it due your bandwidth overusage.

it just saves file sizes - if you used a 100x100 avatar is still has 10,000 pixels in it, whereas if you used a 80x80 there&#39;d only be 6,400

Some versions of opera dont see it. What you do is right click then click open picture. It will open it then just go back and its there. Hope that helps.

It&#39;s to make it clear that the avatar is limited to 80x80 pixels, so that no-one tries to use a big image that would be too blocky at low resolutions.

Most any any any page you go to will have graphics you may like. But they need to be small (what they call 50 x 50 in size) The site above called gifworks is the place to go once you find art you like to make it right size. Do some reading.

Basic instructions to save art to a file. Right click on an image and with the drop down list choose "save as" a new window will open. I like to go to document files/pictures or you can even ahead of time create your own file in program files and call it what you want. ie: "My web art" Anyway once you right click and choose the folder to save to, name what your saving / and save it. If it is an animation make sure it&#39;s end extension is named .jpg If it is just graphics name is ending with .ipg or .bmp (Others may give you bettter tips on this and reading through all the many websites will fill you with education&#33;

i tried it, but my link to the site was too long and it wudnt let me put it in??? i have made a web page with it on, is there anyway i cud use the pic on it as my avatar??thanks for all the help btw, very appreciated :D

If you want it as your avatar, go to &#39;my controls&#39; at the top, then go to &#39;edit avatar options&#39; then paste the URL of your picture where it says &#39;Enter a URL to an online avatar image&#39;.

damn, so close. well i have progressed. i now have a wee red X as my avatar... ah frig, some one please help me out. whys there an x now. i linked it to this page i made, with jus the pic, then added "&ext=.jeg" (cuz it wudnt work without it) but all it does is give me that stupid red x

Your first picture that i posted must be renamed too from fa3297ae.jpg.orig to fa3297ae.jpg without the orig. check the avatar pic. that you are tring to upload might have the same problem.

ok, i clicked on your link that you posted, thank you, i was then taken to another page where i had to upload something, is that right, but to do that i had to register with them? i want a picture of jim carrey as the mask is that possible- im still confused on what to do exactly???
