my cpu's oced to 3.2. my ram is at 2.5-4-4-8 (stock). and vcore is in auto. all my benchies are low, except for 3dmark01. all my other benchies, such as 3dmark03, aquamark, and some other all got lower than my original setup (p4 2.4c @ 2.6, samsung crappy ram, powercolor 865 mobo, same graphx card). wtf!!!!! my cpu is 800 mhz faster, and my comp is laggy and slow!!! wtf!!! actually, my fps in 3dmark03 hasn't changed that much, got a bit better in some of them, but the thing that's weird is in cpu test 2 (troll's lair), i get around 0-5 fps!! b4, with my old setup, i got higher. that's wat brought my score down. but my cpu is much faster than b4. wtf???

should i trim those ram timings? they are pretty high.

everything else hasn't changed that much. nice temps. nice performance in all games. halo especially. so wat up with the bench scores?

the fact that they got lower, would say there is a prob somewhere, are u sure it is stable. try running your proccesor at 2.8 and run it again, and see if it is higher than stock.

my comp is perfectly stable. i just switched back to 2.4 (stock). my temps are scaring me! 24 idle!!! anyways, i'm back at stock, i'm getting the same fps in that cpu test 2 with troll's lair. wtf!!!

i wouldnt have thought fp would be affected by cpu speed? are you running proccesor benches before and after

Have you trimmed your OS? From the way you write you don't have a good understanding of the mechanics of your system.

If all you do is give us measurements, it would appear you don't understand the dynamics of your system.

That seems really wierd...better mobo, 800Mhz faster CPU, and better ram..and its getting worse benchmarks..wierd. Make sure you have DX9 installed and all the updates I guess. Make sure you have the latest drivers too.

3dmark03 won't install without dx9. and i have all the drivers.

wat do u mean i don't know my system?

btw, i didn't install a chipset driver. i thought asus mobos don't need u to install chipset drivers. am i rite?

Well I had to put a cd in with mine..but just for regular board drivers such as usb and ethernet. What exactly are your scores?

for 3dmark03, i get: 3580. and 3dmark01: 10942. my aquamark score was 13000 something. that's crap. i has 22000 b4!!! and my 3dmark03 was 3990 something. can't remember my old 01 score.

you did reinstall your operating system right? im NOT saying that you HAVE TO reinstall (format then install, or even repair install) but it is a lot easier than trying to uninstall old drivers and putting in the new board and getting those ones installed imo. so make sure you reinstall and also i think you should install the latest chipset drivers to work out any bugs that may be in the old drivers. last thing is to defragment and trim down your startup in msconfig and services in services.msc

Download the latest chipset drivers from ASUS and the latest BIOS revision.

my hdd was completely formated and os was reinstalled. so i don't have to worry bout old drivers. msconfig is all tidy already. i can't seem to get this chipset driver for my mobo to work. everytime i install it, my comp freezes, and i can't open any windows. when i do, my explorer.exe goes crazy and takes up 100% of cpu space. and it still won't open. then i tried it withouth installing the driver, and everything is fine. wat up?

haha...

um..i duno..thats wierd..maybe try to reformat windows again...no biggy if you have 2 partitions :)

bigdawg fox there is a guide for the services Here (http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm) (blackviper.com) but its only services not the full guide that adam posted.

but also go to msconfig and turn off as many startup items as you can, run a spyware program and antivirus which im sure you already have.

defragment. make your pagefile is a set number. (like say 500mb min, 500max; not 200min- 500max) because it will reduce defragmentation and speed it up becuase it doesnt have to keep resizing. Also put it on a different partition other than your system parition.

I know that an Intel P4 CPU has a built in protection that will slow it down if pushed too far. Maybe that's the cause of your lag.

Livy

abu. how have u tested that your machine is stable?

well, rite now it's clocked back down to 2.4

and @ livy, yes, i've run many burn in tests at 3.2. and played halo and some other pretty heavy games. all worked fine

try slowly clockign it up, and running the cpu benchmark test, and see if it rises, say go 100mhz at a time, or whatever is easyest. and see if it does go up, and if it a point it starts dropping again

you may be reading the wrong sensor and the cpu may actually be really hot, but i doubt that...

ive got a idea, get that wcpuid program and see what clock frequency it is displaying then you will know if it is throttling it down becuase of a heating problem or somehting like that.

i think there's something wrong with the cpu. at 3.2, i get 0-5 fps in the troll's lair cpu test. at 2.4, i still get 0-5 fps in that test. wat do u think?

try what i said to see if the cpu is being throttled down. im not sure if there is any way to know except with a program with live cpu frequency updating.

Hey, on Black Vipers service configuration guide here (http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm) what setting should i use? Im using gaming so far..disabling alot of stuff

tesco
02-09-2004, 01:45 AM
i wouldnt follow that gaming guide if i were you...i did it once and my internet connection wouldnt work, fast user switching was turned off, themes also, system restore which i used at the time. (i was stupid back then and didnt know what anything was). just open services.msc and look at the ones that say started and then read the name and if its something that you recognize and dont need turn it off, if you arent sure what somehting is read the guide...dont just go and disable everyhting or you will be sorry after.

hmm..yeah i disabled alot...ill just do the "lightest" tweaking...as im sure it wont make a whole lot of diff newayz...thanks rossco!

Now after I went back to stock settings, I hav ethe same problems. All my benchies are a lot lower then they were when I first put the system together. Only Sandra sems to notice the difference...If anyone can help I'd like to know what could be wrong, too. Maybe we damaged the chips? or some bios setting isn't right. Also, I had a corrupt hard drive where WinXP was installed (i always use a seperate HD for my OS, so its no biggie) but ever since I reinstalled XP I noticed the problem. I'm all updated and everything but i'm thinking maybe I forgot to do some tweaks that I did before I reformatted? Thanks for any help, and I hope ihaveabu gets the problem resolved too!

AND I'M DOING FUCKING 25FPS!!!!! WAHOOOO!!!!!.

now i gotta study for a ap euro test. i'll bench my comp at 3.2 tonite. wahooo1!!!!!

aquamark: 22350

same as before. now i just need to push back up to 3.2, and bench again. i can't tonite though. i ahve a ap euro test tormowor
