my current specs are in my sig.

if i were to change the vantec to a 80mm Thermaltake SMART CASE FAN II, how much would my temps change (running the fan at bearable speed and noise level)?

the Thermaltake SMART CASE FAN II's specs are:
Dimensions: 80x80x25mm
Bearing Type: 2 Ball
Nominal Speed(RPM): 1300~4800
Max Air Flow: (CFM): 20.55~75.70
Max Pressure: 1.45~8.43 mm H2O
Heat Sink Material: N/A
Rated Voltage: 12 VDC
Noise(dBA): 17~48
Special Features: Temp.control fan speed.

and does the smart fan get power from the mobo or a 4pin molex?

why dont you just cut the molex wires on your tornado and run it at 7 volts or even 5 volts if you have to but im sure that a 92mm fan at 7volts should be as much air as a 80mm at 12volts so it should result in it being quieter. but wait for someone elses opion first before doing that.

Are you talking about taking your stock tornado off and putting an 80mm fan on your hs? Thats what I did. And your temps are excelent...why dont you get your benchmark scores back to normal before you do nething else..your cooling seems to be great.

he wants rid of the tornado 'cause its to loud.

bigdawk what is that avator picture supposed to be? lol. it looks like a tire rim but that spinning middle is kinda confusin, sorta looks like a fan.

It is a rim, but looks more like a fan :)

Gives me an idea of a good fan design :smilie4:

Why don't you try it and report back to us.

You could then tell us how much your temps change.

BigDawgs av is a "spinner" on a mag wheel.
It is a very popular mod with NBA stars and pimps everywhere.

Abu, I have tried those "smartfans" and think they are useless.
I ended up circumventing the thermal control feature ( basically, a resistor) so the fans would actually move some air.
Before I eliminated the resistor I extended it's wiring and tried the fan with the thermal sensor laying on my heatsink.

Even then, the damn thing would hardly move, and was totally ineffective as a cooling component.

My advice...save your money and get a real fan. If your Tornado is too loud why not just invest in a fan speed control panel or volt mod it?

Yah its a "spinner". They are cool..its a chrome mag with a spinning chrome thing on it...real nice onces cost like 12,000 for 4 of them! :o haha.

Newayz..ok well yeah just get a speed controler.

Are you keeping the thermaltake HS and just screwing a new fan onto it?
