im thinking of making the switch to linux from my nice comfortable winodws envornment. 2 things"
1. what version will be an easy transaction from windows to linux?
2. Is it a good idea?
3. What factors are better about linux than windows?
It is a great idea if you are willing to learn
I think mandrake 9.2 is probably best for beginners right now.
Linux is more stable than windows, more secure, better software, more fun, and just cool.

1) try a live cd they can be used to play with linux before you jump in fully.
here (http://filesharingtalk.com/index.php?showtopic=98483)
2) hell yeah its a good idea even if you dont like it you will see the alternatives.
3) stability and free software.
linux can be a complete pig to use sometimes so it is not for everyone but if you learn how to use it then it will become a very valuable tool.

This is why we need a Linux section.
I strongly suggest trying a Live Disk. Try Linux without it affecting your system.
I still have a bunch to list, but there's over 40 different live disks withtheir descriptions here (http://filesharingtalk.com/index.php?showtopic=98483&st=0)
