National insurance....yuo need it to get a job etc....you get given one when your 16 in the uk

its a cheap little blue card that has letters and numbers on (AA 11 22 33 B). you need it to get a job so the government can tax you and give dosh to the NHS

In Sweden, your NI number is built around your birthday and then 4 extra digits are added, ex:
500826-1234

The first 2 are the year (yepp even after 2000)
The 2nd 2 are the month and the last 2 are the date of birth - the last 4 digits are picked by the state i believe.

These numbers follow you throughout life and are used on all ID cards and driving licence.
