anti-virus -- NOD32, AVG are good (norton sucks)
cd burning -- Nero is good (cd creator sucks)
internet security sucks
ghost is good
I don't use firewalls, I use Router and NAT (basically hardware that does the same job with no hassle), but I hear Kerio is good.
No matter what you do, always keep the XP firewall up.
It's not a full firewall. It more like blocks incoming attacks from crap like the blaster worm. Firewalls allow you to download still, but you have to configure them. for a router, you just have to forward ports. :D

I'm too tired to go into a full explaination.
Good Night. :P

I would go to windows update as well get ALL your critical updates . I would becarefull with Driver updates from there tho. Speaking of updates probaby best to upgrade drivers from your hardware vender's site . They change so fast . Fixes bug's and such B)

RE burning software I would try both with Roxio's XP update they work fine together.
You DECIDE I ran both ,but I like nero.

And don't forget to download all the software above, and keep adding and adding till it says "free space -1.99 GB" :P
You only need :
Antivirus: Nod32/Antivir (NOT the FREE Version), avg sux ballz like hell (not imo, but according to many antivirus tests that antivirus comparason shits did).
Firewall/Router: Sygate for sure. ZA sux balls (makes internet connection slower)
Kazaa Lite/Shareaza :P
Ms Office or equvalent crap.
Winamp or equvalent player.
RealP/Qtime P alternatives.
Regseeker for reg cleaning.
Everything above is imo, so I might b wrong (not totally), but these are
the most essencial programs that a person with a functioning organ called "brain" SHOULD have, especially when connecting the wire/cable to the WWW.

<_< Right. SafeXP and regseeker have more tweaks than this site, because they never update the tweaks anymore. I Check frequently and I saw that they never updated their tweaks since summer. It is a great site anyway.

For a lightweight small av, I recommend Norton Corporate Antivirus Client v8.1.1

The 8 version now works great with xp and it has realtime protection enabled by default.

A Norton av server is not required and the client can be installed on a standalone machine. You wont even know its there it uses hardly any resources.

And for a firewall I recommend a physical device...............a router. They are getting so cheap nowadays there is no excuse not to have one. It saves cpu power and the hassle of configuring a software firewall. Just set it and forget it. when you need ports open just go to the web-based admin console and tell it which ones you want open. Nearly all routers have a web based configuration page...........even the cheap ones.

Router!! Easiest way to go.

can't say I agree with Shn for an anti-virus though. Norton let me down looong ago.

Its suprising the difference between Norton Corporate and Norton home av like Norton pro. i stop using the Norton pro av and other Norton crap long ago.

But its something about Corporate. I think corporate versions are lighter and better because companies and institutions use it. Symantec probably knows they cant bloat it like their other av because companies would not want it then. I got hip to corporate long ago when I seen my uni had it on all their computers. And some of the public boxes at my uni only have like 64 megs of ram so I figured if corp can run on 64 megs of ram then it cant go wrong with anything else. So I found a corp version and have been using it ever since. :smilie4:

You have a point as always, Shn. ;)

Still can't see myself using Symantec's software.

Oh well. My current proggies get the job done. To each, their own. Cheers. :D
