i am planning on buying an ASUS P4C800 E Deluxe, and a P4 3.0ghz CPU. Does this seem to be a good idea? I happen to like ASUS boards, plus it has the hyper thread shit. any alternative ideas that i should explore before commiting?

u might also consider the abit ic7-g max 3. it's just a tiny bit more expensive, but it's got some good features.

You could consider AMD for the same performance and alot less money..if you want.

bullshit, the AMD 3000 32-bit version doesn't compare. if he wanted to match or go beyond it'd be a better idea to go with the Athlon64 3000+ instead. if i were him tho thats actually what i'd do but im waiting for Intels 64-bit to see how they compare to AMD 64.

if you notice i said amd you dumbass. I didnt say 32bit or 64bit or 128bit version..i just said any amd. You can get a 3200 for 90 bux which will be just the same as a 3.0 P4

but then in ur last sentence u agree with me and say thats what you would do?

Yah...and how the hell does AMD mean XP? lol..it means amd..and he didnt say anything about 64bit so i duno how he got on that...and intel wont be here for a while

i just told him to get a 90 dollar procesor (2500XP)which will be equal to the 3.0 P4 if he wanted to save money..

I know where your going with this, seeing as how you can simply overclock the 2500+ to 3200+ levels, and it will indeed be on par with the 3.0 P4. But in that same sense, he can overclock the 3.0p4, to probably up top 3.8 or so, with decent to excellent cooling.....

AMD easily gets more bang for buck than Intel, especially if you o/c.

Pitbul, go buy an Itanium - Intel 64 bit.
I reckon the proper non-business Intel 64 bits be a while coming anyway.

Good choice but im waiting for a couple of months. Dont yet know witch way im leaning Intel or Amd. New memory, video cards , motherboards , cases coming out in a bit. I,m waiting for prices to drop

With prices on CPU,s its almost cheaper to buy a new computer than upgrade !

amd is just as good as p4's. they don't perform as well, but they are very similar. and the price is always lower than p4's. plus, they tend to be more ocable. but u don't get farther speed wise than a p4.

now, have u considered abit mobos?

Sorry abu, but you are just plain wrong there. The current performance leader in the CPU war is the AMD Athlon 64.

I can't get over how little it takes to start an argument here.

Intel is great but expensive.
AMD is almost the same but lower priced.

Solution: Get a faster rated AMD and still save money. You win both ways.

AMD Athlon 64 is a 32 bit CPU (with 64 bit extensions).

It can perform the exact same tasks as a 32 bit CPU, but faster. In fact, later this year, AMD is expected to completely stop production of what is now known as the Athlon XP; they are just going to relabel the Athlon 64 in its place and simply disable the 64 bit support.

And VB, this is hardly an arguement. Abu is a friend of mine; he knows this is an informative discussion.

yea. i'm not arguing. i'm saying amd is good, even though i favor intels. chill!

and @ adamp2p, i really appreciate ur friendship dude. :) :)
