area-51 is p4, and aurora is amd. i prefer intel, so area 51. but alienware sucks compared to self built

j4y3m

The main difference is one has a AMD the other a Intel.

I have a Roswell 3200 version, very nice machines but upgraded mine my self since I didn't like some of the configurations.

I use mine mostly for watching movies, gameing and running p2p fileshareing.

My setup:
Dual Intel Xeon Processors 3.06GHz
3GB DDR PC-2100
NVIDIA Quadro FX 3000 256MB
3x320 gb hd maxtor (came crappy wd hd's 2x120)
Sony 8x dvd+-rw (came with Plextor PX-708A 8x DVD+-R/W)
Turtle Beach 7.1 Sound card (came with soundblaster audigy 2)

Moddified case (I painted over it in UV reflective paint, added a window and more fans, added a side blow hole and one on top of the case)

I'm guessing overall this will cost about $2500-$3000(£1,320-£1,585). I'd be willing to spend that though I don't know if I should build my own o get someone to do it for me.

GIGABYTE nForce3 150 Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket 940 CPU, Model "GA-K8NNXP-940" $209.99
AMD Athlon 64 3400+, 1MB L2 Cache, 64-bit Processor $425.00

Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro $88.00

Total: $3,089.00 or £1,632.75

I'm not going to buy it just now but if you can tell me if I'm missing something or if there's anything wrong with this set up that would be great. I'm still might change the case and monitor but I don't really want the price any higher can you reccomend a good monitor and case for about the same price as the ones I already chose? Another problem I'm having is I'm in the UK if someone in america could buy the stuff change the plugs and send them to me that would be cool.

Sciman, how is the 500GB hard drive set up? two 250's on raid 0?

For the hard drives, seeing as how this is upper end rig were setting up here, I would suggest two 36GB 10k raptors, with a raid.

The HDD space is crap, the only thing going for it is the RPM.

For stupidguy, try Mesh Computers (http://www.meshcomputers.com/). I purchased my PC from these guys and it is out of this world. The prices are fairly reasonable and you get 3 years warranty. Check it out.

No shit.

What you do, is put your OS, and all your programs on two of them, and Raid 0 them, or 1 I suppose. And you put all your media on a nice 250GB ATA drive.

Their fast, and popular as a result.

Its more over just alot more zip at small things, bit faster OS load, and the difference starts to shine through on large files, movies, etc.

Their also used on servers, because of their fast seek time.
