hi, i was wondering...do software firewalls have weaknesses that can be exploited to get through?

can anyone mount an attack enough to fool the firewall into allowing them entry into comps?

examples like zonealarm and sygate would be useful...
i'm just asking as part of my research regarding them, thx

You'll probably be able to find a guide somewhere, but the answer to most of your questions is yes.

hey, i've another question

if i'm infected by a trojan or backdoor application, will i still be safe from hackers since the firewall blocks all outgoing access without permission?

thx

Not necessarily depends what has been exploited. Mostly you should be ok but if its a good trojan server then it might open your port and zonealarm or any firewall cant do anything about it. But most of the times its pretty lame so it will be ok.

Btw, @Neo the link you gave was internet news (http://www.internetnews.com/ent-news/article.php/7_529661)
