Office is a much more comprehensive office suite, it's definitely better than Works. Works is more of a introductory office, often given free when buying a new computer.

This is reflected in the price, about £50 for Works and about £400 for Office.

Microsoft Works 7 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006LA75/qid=1077214036/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_11_1/202-1138580-3466213)

I know few people who have ever touched works. =D GO with microsoft office, .doc files are much easier to send around to other computers.
