I like to download entire anime series in one batch torrents. Problem is that some torrents are 15 gigs and take 50+ hours to download and i turn my computer off every night. Which means it can take a week or two for some series.

I was looking at some 1U servers from ebay and i think i can get a 700 mhz PIII for that price. HD space should not be a problem because a have a spare 80 gig HD.

Will 700 mhz should be enough for BT and maybe installing PHP, SQL and apache? (Im teaching myself PHP so it does not have to be fast)

Whats the best way to control it remotely?

Is a 1U server the best choice? (i might put it in the living room so i dont really want it to look like a computer and servers should run cool right?)

Is Win 2003 a good choice?

thanks for your help in advance
(post anything relevant if you like)

I found this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...7&category=1484 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3078540167&category=1484)

right now its only $129.50

the only problem is that it does not have a CD drive. Can i install win 2003 from the HD?

you should just leave your puter running all the time. thats what theyre designed to do (with proper cooling, which generally isnt a problem)

Yeah. I don't get this. You say you don't want to leave your computer on overnight and then you say you want to buy another computer so that you can leave it on overnight? :frusty:

Why do you need a server?

Not all software will install on a server. You should just use what you have now, and if you want to control it remotely use pcanywhere.

I don't want to leave my computer that i have now in my room all night because its loud and I can sleep with it on.

I wanted a server because i would think they would be the most reliable computer. I would think there designed to do much more then what I want to do. I also like how its small and it looks nice.

I know this and if it wernt for the noise problem i would trust my sony viao on all night and every day. Sony builds crap computers. They only have one fan and a few months ago I found out that they dont even use real pentiums. Its says 2.4 but its really an overclocked 2A. So basically i have a cheaply made, overcloced, insufficently cooled computer. I think they build it to work just longer then the warrenty. (yes i will build my own next time)

could always change the cooler.....much cheaper than buying a server......you could get a nice powerful one to keep your O/c'ed chip cool, with an rpm adjuster, so at night, you can turn it down to sleep.....or just get a decent zalman, virtually silent, and only for what, 50 dollars?

yeah, you can get some pretty good cooling soloutions for your current computer, which would be alot better than buyin another computer.

couple fo case fan, new cpu cooler, graphics cooler. = not very much, and maybe even some ram sinks.

and it would be more benificial, since it will be assuring your good computer will stay in one peice.
