hey,
i have an hp a320n. i just put on xp pro from hp home and i no longer have the internet. in device manger it shows the yellow question mark by ethernet controller, meaning the driver isn't installed. normally i would put in the cd to install the driver...but hp didn't give me any cds (or floppys) with my computer. soo i need to find what motherboard i have cause i have on board lan or ethernet card inorder to get a driver for it.

any ideas are welcome.
thanks

Get AIDA32 from HERE (http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php) and install that.
It'll tell you everything it's possible to find out by querying your hardware.
It'll also give you a link to the download or home page of the hardware manufacturers.

goto HP Web Site (http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwareDownloadIndex.jhtml?reg=&cc=us&softitem=pv-17514-1&prodId=hppavilion364171&lc=en&plc=&sw_lang=en&pagetype=software) and download teh file SP23996.exe it is the original driver for the network card that came with your system. Then run that file.

firefox.. i downloaded what you said. tried it and no luck. it says...- Click OK to continue. The original drivers are now stored in the C:\HP\Drivers\LAN folder...- so i did that

but in the lan folder their are 4 other folders. i don't know which one to use. i tried them all and none seemed to work. but now in the network connections folder i have a connection. and the ethernet with the yellow question mark is gone. but when i open IE6 it doesn't have a connection.

To answer your topic question, the answer is....

If your computer works, you have a motherboard.

Easy friend go back to device manager delete ethernet card or roll back driver for the card and reboot then try UDI. :)

UDI Will tell you the name, number ,serial, or what ever you what write it down then go to drivers.com. find your driver. http://members.driverguide.com/ums/index.p...69902084v950608 (http://members.driverguide.com/ums/index.php?action=l&ac=1069902084v950608)

LOGIN drivers

PASSWORD all

Scott you should be able to use xp drivers tho I'm a little confused either delete network card and reboot or use hardware wizard to install drivers from xp disk. I was helping someone with an win98 issue early on so I wasn't thinking :D

i deleted it and then there just wasn't an ethernet or network connection anymore so i had to go back though and somehow i got it back. but when i got it back, it came back the same as it left, without the yellow question mark. it still has the wrong driver installed. how do i get rid of this?

all my drivers are messed up... sound- 56k modem- ect. is it because i upgraded from hp home to xp pro with out formatting and i am using 30gb of a 120gb drive?
if i format will it fix driver problems?
thanks alot for the help

Well I guess you could format & reinstall thats the easy way out  JK sounds like a good idea Scott Remember to back up ! Also reinstall your motherboard drivers after XP install :)

Hey Wile, I have a PCI Ethernet Card if you want that
It would solve your problem about finding drivers for your onboard lan
but it might be a good idea to format anyway, get rid of some of the garbage on there
