I got sick and tired of windows media player and everything about it, so now it's all gone thanks to XPLite. Now...my problem is that I can't play Windows Media Player files with out it installed (wma, wmv...).

Note: wmp 6.4 , 7, 9...ALL GONE.

So I'm wondering if there is any way that I can install the codecs I need without having WMP around (I know I could just install it again but I'd like it to stay gone). For example, is there a site out there that has such a package of them...?

Thanks to all in advance ;).

winamp plays wma files, or you could try Media Player Classic (http://umn.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/guliverkli/mpc2kxp6478.zip) you may need to install Microsoft Windows Media Format Redistribution Pack before playing asf, wmv, wma files.

download it from:

actually after I unistalled WMP and all, Winamp complained about DRMClien.dll, but i solved that. In 'Plugins'>>'Input' in Winamp it said "codec not detected" for some "in_something-or-other.dll" or something like that, and i just removed it.

Media Player Classic and BSPlayer don't play any WMP files now, btw.

ALSO: When I installed the Mega Codec Pack, it complained about msdmo.dll and wouldn't installl without it, so I ran downstairs to my family computer on WinXP as well, copied the dll to a floppy, popped it into my system32 folder, and the Mega Pack install fine.

I'm going to try those suggestions now. I'll see if it'll work.

Thanks!
