i just bought this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...e=STRK:MEBWN:IT (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=51064&item=3461269932&ssPageName=STRK:MEBWN:IT)

and now i need some 4 pin to 3 pin adapters for my tornado.

heres my question:
do i need this:
Image Resized
http://a248.e.akamai.net/f/248/5462/2h/2cooltek.safeshopper.com/images/bw16oc66.jpg' width='200' height='120' border='0' alt='click for full size view'>
with a female 3 pin plug and 2 4 pin molexes so i can link the fan into parallel circuit.

or can i just use this:
[img)
also with female 3 pin plug, but only has 2 wires and 1 4 pin molex.

do i need to get the one with 2 4 pin molexes or the one from svc (only 1 molex).

i really need to know this. thanks

Oh c'mon, Abu.
This is a silly question.

Do you need the power to "pass thru" (surprise! that's what the two Molex version is called) and continue on to another component or does your power line end with the fan?

Sheesh....

hey man, i'm just a dumb 15 yr old. <_< ;)

but i did get the part rite bout the female 3 pin plug thing rite?

another thing: where could i find the adapters i need? the place i got the pic from sells them for $1.5. that's kinda expensive, isn't it?

Hello!

Knock,knock, is Abu home?

How do you plan on tapping into your power cables?

Are they all tied up going to different things?
Hark...then get the first adaptor.

Oops, theres an unused one just dangling around...get the second one.

Yes, you are correct about the 3-pin part.

Score =50%.

But Abu plays well with others. :P

nope. its not like your going to have your motherboard power a hard drive or something... so no. just find one like the one i posted, for a price you like.

YOU TELL US! its a simple question.

if u have spare molexs on your power supply then you cna get teh second but if you have none or only one or two left i would ge tthe passthrough one you you can hook up more fans to teh one or to hook up another device.

well, rite now, my tornado is a passthrough (2 4 pin molexes). so how would only 1 4 pin molex be able to connect to that?

Livy
02-25-2004, 03:00 AM
just becasue it has 2 molex's doesnt mean the both gotta be used, its a pssthrough so it doesnt use up a molex as most supplys's only come with 4

ok....

wat's ur point?
rite now, i have both of the molexes on my tornado plugged into a parallel circuit (passthrough). how would i be able to stick an adapter with only 1 4 pin plug into this system without using up another molex from the psu?

AAAAAAAAAAAAGH.

right Abu, what the hell are you wanting to do.

am i correct in that your tornado is currently connected via a passthrough molex, and u want a 3pin adpater so u can plug it into your fan controller?

tesco
02-25-2004, 03:10 AM
wait now im confused, why would you need passthrough on it if you are hooking a fan up? if a fan is being hooked up in the molex connection then it wont be hooked up to the psu at all and wont require passthrough so why would it be there?

i'm a little confused too. so then, ok. rite now, my tornado has no adapter, and it's 2 molexes are connected in pass through. r u saying that i connect one of the 2 molexes on the fan to the power supply, and the other molex to the adapter (the adapter with 1 molex)?

like something like this?

no, you dont use the second one going to the psu, only the one going to the adapter, as if u connected it to the psu, the fan adapter wouldnt work as the psu would always be supllying 12v,

ok. i got it now. i need to connect everything to the controller. so if i just get an adapter with 1 molex, i'd leave the other molex from the fan dangling, and it won't be a complete circuit, rite?

yes, and u will also need to connect a supply from the psu to the fan adapter.

Okay,

A- You connector your power supply to the fan controller.

B. you connect the fan adapter to the Controller.

C- You connect the male molex connector, of your fan adapter, to the female molex connector, on your fan.

wouldn't it be an incomplete circuit?
u ahve power coming into the controller from the 1 psu molex connected to the controller
then u have an adapter that hooks up to the controller, bring hte power from the psu to the fan. then u have the 1 molex of the adapter connect to one of the molexes of the fan (which has 2 molexes). now, how would the electricity go back? how would this complete the circuit if u have the input power going into one molex of the fan, and nothing coming out?

it is because it is going into the fan then back into the molex through the ground wire of the fan. beleive me it will work for sure. i have a fan with a pass through molex on it and i am not using the end its just dangling and im not having any problems.
