Overnet

ive downloaded overnet 3 times from 3 different places and when i try to install it NAV has none of it, it just keeps on stopping the install.

i know that this must b a rare problem, <_< can anyone plz give us a hand, cheers

Its cleared up now, its a screwup over at the guys of Symantec. Norton Antivirus, with the latest updates, thinks that edonkey and overnet are viruses. Thats not the case. NAV is AGAIN wrong, as this false positive already happened a while ago with other software from another company. Weirdly, the enterprise edition of NAV doesnt do that, as somone tried in their company. Other scanners like Mcafee do not react to it. Your only solution is to explude the files of your client from search. Do not disable your Software and ALWAYS scan what you download, even if you clicked the link on SR. Theres always a chance a virus gets through, but in this case its NOT a virus and you are safe to use edonkey and overnet.

Here the offical statement from the maker of edonkey:
There is no virus or backdoor in Overnet or eDonkey2000. Norton antivirus is incorrectly detecting this. We are working to get them to either change their virus definitions or put up a new exe that doesn&#39;t get this warning.
Once again. There is absolutely no problem or danger with running overnet or eDonkey2000.

I believe Norton released a fix (which is automatically downloaded as update virus definitions). You then just go into the quarantine section of NAV and restore overnet (double click on the NAV icon -> Reports -> Quarantined items then look around for overnet.exe in the list and restore it). There was a post with more info on it that I read in this forum.

Download the norton update file for feb. 27 ( it&#39;s updated everyday) from Here. (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/download/pages/US-N95.html) It comes as a .exe file, after download click it to run then reboot.

Open norton anti-virus>reports>quarantined items>view reports, highlight overnet.exe and click on "restore item"

guys this is your fastest and best option.

and please read before you post i think we got like 10 of these posts now :lol:
