How cynical would I be when I'd say: Good timing?

The article appears to say he hasn't been captured. The initial report comes from Tehran who are saying that the US are holding OBL in order to use him at a convenient time for GB's re-election. This may be true but seems a tad far fatched and if discovered would re-bound horribly on GB. I would be surprised if his strategists are that daft.

I think it is almost certain that OBL will be cornered at some point sooner or later and probably die in a gun battle unless caught by surprise. Indeed capturing and holding him may make him a martyr and those holding him the focal point for every lunatic and suicide bomber on the planet.

I also suspect that OBL has eluded capture for long enough to ensure that much of the control and day to day running of AQ is now dispersed to others and that we are chasing him for what he has done in the past not what he will do in the future.

I read yesterday that the US military has stepped up efforts to find OBL.

The timing of this effort seems very political to me, also.

How better for Bush to present himself as "the wartime President" than to parade a captured nemesis at the Republican Convention?

I thought we were intensively searching for the past three years.
Why the ratcheting up of efforts now?

All intensive searches are equal - it is just that some are more equal than others.
