Seeing as the I'm about to lose my mouse - hint : 10$ brandless mice suck - I'm looking for a decent , optical , scrollwheel-equiped mouse . Preferably with a few bells & whistles ( like programmable buttons ) , staying in a 20-60 € price range. Ive been looking in shops , but nothing beats first-hand experience... ;)

Thanks.

The Olympic-1300 4D Optical Mouse (http://www.itwarehouse.com.au/catalog/8/KM-MI-OLY-1300.htm) served me very well for about 3 years.
5 buttons including the scroll wheel, with your choice of PS2 or USB connection.

It's got a very lightweight feel to it and is super responsive.

I just recently replaced mine after it finally died with an el cheapo intellimouse lookalike.
But I'm beginning to miss my faithful old Olympic...

This lil' rodent ? (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=008)

Saw it in stores , but I figured it was more of a "backup" mouse. Is it easy on the hands ? Not too bulky ?

Olympic-1300 4D Optical Mouse

Sold outside of Australia as well ?

Yes. In the UK, it goes by the name of the Mentor 4D Optical Browser Mouse (http://www.computer-garage.co.uk/61/3777.html)

The site you've given only delivers in the UK , not mainland Europe (Belgium). I'm looking for other stores that carry it.

Who builds it , anyway ?

It says there that it works on Plastic
is that true Unzi?
Does it work good on refletctive surfaces or is that a gimp?

Here you go... In Belgium, it's just known as the Optical Mouse (4D) (http://www.simmsales.com/products.php?art=ART-00041)

I'm not sure who actually makes this mouse. The manufacturer's website is down.
I suspect its some firm in asia, seeing as the brand name changes from one country to another.

@Zedaxax - I don't think they're talking about shiny plastic... perhaps a laminated table might be ok, but definately not mirrors or white ceramic tiles.

Thanks uNz[i] - didn't expect you to do my shopping for me :)
EDIT : Some sites have it for a slow as €13.99 - Whoop di doo !

So how exactly did you kill yours ? Wear & tear or some horrible soup-spitting incident ?

Get a Logitech MX500, or MX510. They're both great mice.

LOL.. "soup spitting incident" .. nice one.

Well I did drop it more than once, but my mouse died of natural causes... old age killed it. :)

The Logitech 510 looks like overkill for me , but I like the 500.

The only piece of hardware that died of old age in this house was a keyboard... after 5 years of service , the keys started to stick to my fingers rather then the board...I spent more then one night puzzling to get them back in the right order

i got a microsoft intellimouse explorer and it has programmable buttons, and it works nice, but i would reccomend getting rechargable batteries cuz its a battery hog if you use it alot Microsoft intellimouse (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=002)

Thanks for the replies so far. I've got an hour or two between classes tomorrow , so I can see if any store out here has these in stock - I think I've already seen the Logitech one , so there's hope :)

I'll keep you informed...

That's in canadian dollars remember
but it is really nice
yeah cordless use batteries, which is a downside but it's fine if you just have a recharger like i do, then it becomes a major plus for me, I like the freedom of a cordless, it's kinda like sleepin naked, makes you feel nice and free!

i've tried me some microsoft mice and just didn't like'em. they seemed like they didn't move very well and there were just to big for my taste. i prefer logitech mice. the one (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=3,CONTENTID=4988) i have is nice and small. i mean, it's not to small, but fits in ur hand well. and is very smooth. i paid $20 for mine, but i believe u can get them for $15 depending where u look.
