one of my freinds computers, has this damn worm. this comp has win2000 and service pack 4. i d/led the ms-kb823980 patch, which did nothing cause it said its alredy installed... so far, i can get on the net, no shutdown probs, but just after 2 mins, an error comes up saying svchost.exe has failed. i also cant move the icons, open folders. this comp has Antivirus 2003 installed and the latest updates. it finds the worm, but says it cant do nothing about it, delete/remove/quarantine it.. im stuck

two points I want to make
1. your av sucks ass if it can't get rid of a w32blaster
2 you are not running a firewall
change is in order, grab zygate or zonealarm and maybe try avg as a AV

Here is a tool called STINGER (http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/) from McAfee that will remove it. Once you remove it make sure you run windows updates and install all critical updates so you do not get reinfected.
