LOS GATOS, Calif. -- South Bay police found a stolen FBI agent's car, but weapons that were inside are still missing. The car thief is also on the loose.

The FBI has confirmed at least one of the weapons in the vehicle was a handgun. There was also law enforcement equipment taken from the car. It is not clear if that equipment included ammunition or FBI badges.

It appears whoever stole the FBI's a maroon Chevrolet Impala didn't want to leave behind any evidence. The partially burned-out car gives the impression the thief tried to set the vehicle on fire.

Police found the fire-damaged car at Carlton and National in Los Gatos Monday night after a massive search involving a police helicopter and the Los Gatos/Monte Sereno department. Police sent out bloodhounds to see if they could track the thieves. There have been no arrests.

The car was stolen from the Pinnacle Fitness Club -- a few blocks away from where it was found.

Police are looking into the possibility that this was a random theft in which the suspects ditched the car after they realized what they had on their hands.
