here's the different parts than I wanted

Before: Sapphire Radeon 9600pro
After: Powercolor Radeon 9600pro

Before: Gigabyet GA-7n400-L1
After: Asus a7n8x

another beef I have the guy says I should use the amd stock heatsink and how it's quiet and good and yada...

then go for it, 100 is a lot. the asus board is fully capable it is a good board and power color makes good vid cards so i dont see why not to go for it if u save that much.

Agreed, with that extra hundred bucks you could spend that on lights or whatever you want, somethin to make it look nice too, or even get some good cooling or another HD, a hundred is a lot to save

What about the heatsink thing?

I use my stock heatsink that came with my 2500+ and it's fine! I have no problems with it at all
maybe better thermal paste, but the heatsink is usually decent
what one were you thinking of getting before?

You sure? I ws on Overclockers.com and it said it was a good paperweight...

Oh and should I get the GeForce FX 5700 ? it's the same price as power color 9600pro

Nah, the stock HSF is actually quite good, I'm happy with it, and I know tons of people who have OC'ed really good amounts just with stock HSF

and as for the GFX, just search around and check some benchmarks like this one
http://www.techreport.com/reviews/2003q4/geforcefx-5700ultra/3d3.gif
This one has the 5700 Ultra, not sure if thats the one you were saying, or just regular 5700, but look around and you'll get an idea of whats the better card, reviews are always good to pay attention to as well

Stock HSF is great!

The 9600Pro is better then the 5700non ultra.

Yup, in general I prefer ATI over nVidia (no flaming needed, it's just my opinon) anyway, and the 9600pro can OC to an XT as well as far as I know, not positive on that though

Try using the stock hs/f and just buy a couple of fans for your case and try to create good airflow threw the case. This will help the stock ks/f cool the processor more efficiently.
personally I use a Volcano 9 hs with an Antec UV blue/green fan on it and it looks super cool and is a lot more quiet than the Thermaltake fan.

OK double check the specs and see if they're good.

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton with stock heatsink
Asus A7N8X
512mb of "Brand Name" pc-3200 ram X2
Maxtor 120gb 8mb Cache IDE 7200rpm
Powercolor Radeon 9600Pro
Soundblaster Live! 5.1
Lite-On cd-rw/dvd-rom combo drive
18" ATX case with 350 watt power supply (for some reason the 17" with 300 is more expensive)
LG Studioworks 700s 17" (is this a good monitor? I've seen this monitor at school but can it play games?)
Samsung keyboard
microsoft optical mouse
some pos speakers

One more thing is how do I know if I can trust the store? It's a really small store owned by 2 or 1 people.

look at store http://www.aa-computers.com

those specs look good, are you going to overclock the 2500 to 3200 speeds?

Keikan
