If I send a mass email to a bunch of people I know, how come it doesn't go into their bulk email??

What makes the mail client recognize it as spam??

Is it the amount?

Various filters, etc. And how will one of your friends' email clients know the same message has been BCCd to a hundred other people?

Aparenlty if the mail includes a link to an unsubscribe list, then technically it cant be classed as spam.

The number of recipients isn't what spam filters base their decision off of; it's the content of the email itself, and probably the headers, too.

You're right, but technically that isn't the way it's supposed to be. Unsolicitated email was the original definition of Spam (or Smam) and now the add-in lists that most clients are going to are going to go nothing but complicate the process of and suck out the enjoyment of email.

Thunderbird's Bayesian filter can be trained to be even better. :)

That's good to hear. I'm planning on switching over to the Firefox/Thunderbird combo once both hit 1.0.

Spam is un requested email, if the ppl you send email to have you in the address list it wont be seen as junk or spam

as said b4 , junk mail is your choice, you choose who is safe and who is not,
spam will also go in your junk email unless you choose to instantly delete all junk emails

spam is unwanted crap sent by ppl you dont know or want email from

Right now I have some crazy filters on, and they actually work... The message must be clean 7-bit ASCII, no HTML messages are allowed.
The first and last word in the subject line must be "ANTISPAM."
The message must have an empty Cc header.
You must include my full name (if you're an IRL contact) or my handle (if you're an Internet contact) somewhere in the message.
The addresses in the From: and Reply-To: headers must be in my address book.

My isp filters work ok, but I wish I could have all that stuff auto deleted.

Can't say the same for free email accounts. The only success I had with getting rid of "all" spam was when I ran my own email servers with sendmail and spam assasin on the side.

If you want real spam, sign up for a mailing list or group. I garuntee you get over 100 emails a day minimum. :)

 Did I mention all that spam I catch meets its master in /dev/null?

You are unlikley to recive spam if you dont sign up to any sites with erroctic content, bit of a narrow area to blame but considering that many sites are owned by large mass media companys who themselfs probably have subsiderys linked to free clinics, viagra, contreceptive and other establishments who in turn have link to yet more companys. Yet it only originates from anything slughtley unlawfull something which will come back ot bite you in the ass.
