hard drive i know was 200, forgot what teh size was though, it wasnt too big. and the ram was like 256mb $90 or $100. i dont know how much the casing was but it included the screen in it so it was probably expensive

but yeah in any case, i've never tried to build one, but you don't see many places to buy parts, so i assume not many people do build them, and there's gotta be a reason why

probably because they are so small and hard to find parts that will all fit into the case so nobody builds them.

edit: and there are problems with getting rid of the heat.

One of the reason people don't build them is because they are so compact the parts inside them are sometimes built just for that one model so it fits inside the case alright.
For example: If you check eBay for "laptop ____'s part" you'll find lots of items just for the dell or the gateway only because it will only fit or designed to run with the exact equipment inside the laptop which is why there is so many shit laptops for sale on eBay as they become expensive doorstops after a period of time due to the lack of upgrades.
Plus the price for some of the laptops parts are unbelievable.

As a rule, laptops are not very generic. I mean, even though the components all operate in essentially the same way(i.e. harddrives, memory, graphics), the parts used are not interchangeable among the different brands/mfg and the cases they utilize.

Attempting to build your own laptop will result in a huge waste of your time and money.

IMO, stick to custom desktops.

building SFFs with foldable LCDs on the top is practically the same thing, cept no batteries

if u want a portable PC, and you want to fuck away with the laptop dealers, build a SFF
