All you need is an Antec Sonata, Zalman heatsink and some soundproofing and you can make your pc as high spec as you want without sound.

I used to have a 486 which didn't need any fans.

Of course this one beats a 486. Just.

lets repeat:

these are instructions for building a NATURALLY SILENT pc, not one with sound reduction, and NOT one with silent fans and shit. one with NO SOUNDS IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!

Your question was "Most Silent Comp Ever, how to make it"?

You didn't state it had to be turned on at the time. Therefore, my reply is/was a valid contender for the prize (and ultimately the winnner)

actually a computer which is off could still make noise: a waterpump <_<

mine has no moving parts at all and needs no cooling system so mine is guaranteed to make no noise

4thGen, do me a favor and give me legitamate (sp?) ideas that arent bullshit

btw, if the computer is off, its not computing anything, and thus is not a computer so ur submission is disqualified

@dray02, agreed.

@vb, sometimes, peoples ideas deserve to be called "bullshit"

By your reasoning, every single object should then be called a "nothing" when it stops performing its intended function then?

Look, I didn't mean to piss you off by "spamming" your topic. As VB said, you could have gone about telling me in a slightly more mature way...:)

Oh, and by the way, I've been here longer than you and tried to help more people aswell ;)

even though there is no moving parts, there may be noise, as the components will still make noises.

or you could just buy a laptop. mines doesnt make any noises until a bit of a high load is put on it, then the fans kicks in, which isnt that loud either.

put it in a vacuum

then you could put anything in a vacum, and also u will need to keep the vaccum.

also you need to run the wires out of the wires, and also keep it cool, and noise may be transmitted via the wires

BigBoo

put it on really long wire and let it float round space. or i'm sure you could create a low pressure box with perspex and silicon gel and wouldnt need the hoover on all the time

Did you know the heads of the hard discs need air to float above the platters?
Current hard disks can't work in a vacuum.

Yes but this is one for someone who wants NO noise, not noise being killed.

atiVidia,

I think most people responding to this thread all use different definitions for "silent" en "Almost silent".

A completely silent rig, to me means:
Have the rig running in a anechoic chamber, take a sound level reading @ 2 ft.
Switch off the the rig, take a second sound level reading @ 2 ft distance.
When there is no difference, either by measurement or by human ear, I would declare to be silent.

I call my current rig almost silent.
At night, with the rig running, when all kinds of domestic apparatus are switched off, and when my ears are used to the silence, I can't hear a difference at 8 ft distance when I switch the machine off.

By day, in normal circumstances, it is difficult to tell if the rig is running sitting at the concole.

The someone who wants "no noise", does he mean " I doen't want to be disturbed by the sound ", or does he mean " I don't want to be able to tell (blindfolded) if the rig is running, even when I am on my knees, my head next to the case."

There IS a difference.
The last definition is a "Holy Grail", and only a few people have found it.

i wasnt talking about the actual pc in a vacuum, i mean in panels built like double glazed windows ;)
