NEC burners are the cheapest one in europe,

I bought a Pioneer -/+ 8 speed for 100 €

Newegg is where I got mine, Lite On 4x -/+R Retail Drive for 93 bucks.
Seen yesterday, that they have a 8x NEC now for $92.

Of course, not to rehash what's been said on this board a million times, but Pricewatch, Newegg, ebay, and many others, good places to find cheap drives.
