If you are looking for performance DO NOT get that mobo. It does not support dual channel memory. It only has the NF2 400 chipset, not the NF2 400 Ultra.

Mobo makers were under the impression that it could support dual channel, but have had to issue a retraction after a bulletin from Nvidia.

For dual channel you need to get the A7N8X (no -X) at a minimum.

if i was actually going to buy that motherboard i would have done a lot of research on it first so im sure i probably would have found that out, plus i was runnign out of virtual money so i decided to change the motherboard to that a7n8x-x from just a plain a7n8x. a7n8x supports dual chanel right?

Nice system, ROSSCO_2004.

We could use the Gigabyte 7N400L board instead and save some money. Uses the same 'Ultra' chipset. $112 CDN.

And replace both optical drives with a DVD burner.

thanks VB ill change the board and possibly the burner, but i doubt it, we're already over budget and there are no fans or any accessories.

Note: Change to IDE drives. Those boards don't support SATA.

Also get the retail verion of the CPU. Lowers the cost of buying a separate cooler and has a way better warranty.

@ROSSCO_2004, there is not a big speed difference, if any, between SATA and IDE drives. The drives read/write speed isn't fast enough to need higher than 100 Mb/s bandwidth.

You could also compromise a bit with the RAM to fit into the budget.

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/Sea...4900&CatId=1043 (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=669374&Sku=C13-4900&CatId=1043)

Could also get a case with power supply included for less.
